Because that is what clubs like ours have to do, maybe been spotted last season and looked ok, what do we have to lose. It depends on the reason for release, a player not signing a new contract may well get released as he wants too much money. Maybe he has personal reasons for not wanting to live in the Chester area, who knows. As disjointed said it won't be the first time that someone released from below our level does a good job at our level, we don't have anything to lose to give him a half in a pre-season friendly.
