Of course speed is to do with fitness. He may not ever have been quick but he'd be quicker if he was fitter, that's for certain...

I honestly don't think at 31 years old any increased level of fitness would give him any additional pace that would impact his performances to any significant level.

He'd probably end up injured from over training were he to embrace your madcap theory

So your proven reason that Anthony Gerrard isn't fit is because he isn't quick!?

Half the squads for the last 10 years have been unfit going by that theory.

You've misconstrued the point. The proof is the belly he owns, but you watch how slow and ponderous he is and you've got to think that increased fitness levels would render him sharper and faster. Like Harry says, maybe not by much but maybe it would be the difference in some situations. Watch him get skinned in the Walsall highlights - perhaps he wouldn't were he fitter. Can't possibly say for sure but it'd be nice if we couldn't use fitness as an excuse...

Whether he is overweight / unfit/ slower is irrelevant.

what is relevant is whether he is equipped to play the left side of a 3.  If he isn't he restricts the system choices available to the manager who seems to me to want to play 3 5 2.    My fear is that we have collected a pool of players some of whom are better suited to 3 5 2 and some who aren't and almost  all are right footed.  The outcome then becomes square pegs in round holes,  players not being happy or comfortable with their prescribed roles and the wrong decisions being made at critical points of games.

i think Sheridan feels constrained by certain key players limitations, hence his frustration......but then he has been party to recruitment so not blame free

So now it's the no six pack defence! Everybody knows if you arent just lean muscle ghen you cant be fit right? Players are going to be quicker than him and will sometimes go passed him. It happens! It will also happen to Clarke, Hunt and Wilson. It happended to Stott at the end of last season. Was that about fitness?

Funny how the one player with a bigger build than the rest of the squad who went through exactly the same pre season as the rest is now being singled out for criticism. He isnt even fkn fat!

Oh and neither Sheridan, his coaching staff or players are using fitness as an excuse. It's our 'knowledgable' fans who immediately look for the easiest thing to criticise and then bleet about it all season when we lose. :dedhrse:

A man who is evidently not in peak physical condition is playing against men who are in peak physical condition.

It's a disadvantage. It's quite simple really.

Except you have no idea what his physical condition is...

You have no idea what the physical condition of the opponents are...

You are surmising and It's all bollocks mate!

In your opinion.... The abuse flowing from armchair international players prompted my comment and will stick by it.

Agreed, can't blame the centre backs for either goal from what I saw. Failure to close down by a forward and a midfielder cost us.

If Gerrard was at the peak of physical fitness he wouldn't be in league one. It was the same when we had Gregan. If he's 5lb heavier than he should be so what as he's better than anyone else we could get in on our budget. Besides being chubby isn't a sign of a lack of aerobic fitness either the same way as being skinny does mean your aerobically fit.

Sort a decent defensive midfielder and it will be a different picture at the back.

Clarke hates gerrard that much that he signed a new 2 and half year deal to be gerrards defensive partner.

They don't look at the form of Clarke when he's not playing with Gerrard and look at the interviews of Gerrard he's not a fan of Clarke and vice versa. Gerrard was the reason Clarke nearly went last year!

One of these two posts must be incorrect

That Clarke signed a new deal is a proven fact, thank you 4froale.

I wonder when the OP is going to provide some facts......

It's lower league body shaming and it needs to stop.

Poor Gez has probably been making himself sick all night because of NewBlue.
