He was playing for City's kids a few years ago and spent some time at Blackburn on loan last season. Leaving out his year in Holland I fully expect someone at Oldham watched him prior to him signing for Wigan in Jan. I'd expect someone regularly and routinely watches City's kids/EDS "on behalf" of Oldham. Not to mention Blackburn, who we played in the Checkatrade last year. He was signed for Wigan by a manager who was sacked a little later. The fact he spent the summer training with Wigan's kids despite being signed as a Championship player was a sign that he might be available. Wellens may have then gone to watch him play for Wigan's kids/reserves but to say he was spotted by Wellens is taking things a bit too far.
