  1. Leeds replaced by Sheff Wed and Stockport by Rochdale....pretty much like for like really.....we could get Morecambe out of the second but other than that it will be a very Southern dominated league once again. We can't rely on income from away fans and we will have to better to watch and possibly challenging for the play offs if we are to grow our fanbase. We have to make the right appointment this time......a very very important season beckons!!!!
  2. 'One thing's for certain, no manager with any ambition will touch us with a bargepole' I think quite the opposite.....there will be loads of applicants for the job. Apart from the 'Blue chip' clubs many teams will be in the same boat this season with dwindling crowds and poor budgets......there will be a lot less attractive clubs than OAFC. If someone can come here and get us up or into the playoffs they'll have done their CV no harm at all!!! If Martin Gray wasn't on the short list he would have gone with Penney today......I reckon he is one of the favourites for the job along with Gregan.
  3. Think you should add Martin Gray to that list as I think it's almost certain he'll get the job...........................cheapest option and he wants to be a No 1
  4. We need to thin the squad which contains almost 40 players. We need to ship out 5 or 6 players......Worthington, Parker, Whittaker, Lomax, Brill, and maybe Allesandra. We still have Fleming for another year and the form of Stephens and Lee was like signing two new players, the likes of Brooke, Eaves, Black, and Millar should be pressing for inclusion next season. Hopefully we will have funds available for a CB, CM, and a couple of strikers and I would be satisfied. One striker may be enough but it has to be where the bulk of our budget is utilised and getting the right man in is vital...........we have to score more goals next year if we want to be competitive and get more people through the gates!!
  5. Season ticket sales will be well down so we will have to persuade the punters on a match by match basis that we are worth watching and we desperately need a good start! If the team performs better then the crowds and atmosphere will improve......but it's all about what happens on the pitch!! If we start as we did this season I dread to think what the crowds will be like!
  6. Yes but at that point we will be almost in July, I'm pretty sure that if Penney was going he would have gone by now, he's here for the duration and as regards season ticket sales it will prove to be a massive gamble...............Let's hope TTA have got it right!!!!!!
  7. Saturday 28th February 2009.............1 year and two months (61 games) since we scored more than two goals in a match!!!!! An unenviable record that needs urgent attention next season........we need two more strikers next season, an attacking midfielder, and a centre back as an absolute minimum and we need them from the start not on loan in bloody January. We have had a decent enough finish to the season to stay up but it cannot mask what has been one of the most unentertaining seasons in living memory. We need to start playing our football at the other end of the pitch or the mass exodus of our diehard fans will continue. Over to you Dave Penney!!!!
  8. So what..... I would gladly settle for that!!!!! What Blackpool have achieved is absolutely fantastic and should give every team in the lower leagues hope for the future. Get the right coach and bond some decent players and anything is possible. Oh, and they still have a three sided ground and if promoted it will be full to the rafters next season. Well done Blackpool!!!
  9. I'd rather have skill and composure any day and is what we have been missing all season!!!
  10. Lightweight????.........Oh, you mean like Paul Scholes, Mike Milligan, Nick Henry, Alan Ball, Bryan Flynn,...................what's this obsession with size..................if you can play football you don't need to be a flamin bruiser!!!
  11. In a season such as this one, I wish I had your confidence.....on paper Tranmere have Exeter, Brentford and Stockport, three very winnable games. If Southend beat Brighton at home and we lose at Carlisle and also as expected at Southampton the game against them will be massive and they would have nothing to lose and need to beat us to have any hope of staying up. If that happened the goal difference would be very very close and they would play Stockport at home......Yeovil away and Charlton at home would become real nailbiters!!! Yes, we are in a good position and hopefully, should be safe, but I would much rather beat Carlisle than have to go through all that.........We have to go all out for a win on Saturday and do it in style!!!
  12. To be fair he's had a few injury problems and never had a settled run..........I think he could become a fair player if he can steer clear of injury!
  13. +1........... Unless he gets sent off or is injured during the last few games he will have played every minute of every match!!! A fantastic achievement for a no nonsense centre half in the twilight of his career. He's been a rock as captain this season and is the main reason we will still be playing div 1 football next season. He's deserved his contract extension and is my player of the season by a country mile!!!! Well done Greegs!!
  14. Looking at the games to play I think Tranmere and Exeter will survive and if we beat Southend I think they will be down. Looking at Gills fixtures below, I can't see them getting more than 6 points, so a win from our remaining games could be enough!! Milwall (a) Norwich (a) Wycombe (a) Southampton (h) Leeds (h) Brighton (h) That win today could turn out to be the result that keeps us up!!
  15. That equaliser makes a huge difference to our survival hopes....I fear the worst! I can only see a maximum of 5 more points and could be still on 44 points after the next three games ( all away ) and in the bottom 4. With the possibility of losing Guy back to Doncaster after today the situation is bloody critical!!!
  16. We have to go for it now.........no time for the faint hearted!!!!
  17. A win today would be massive and would take a lot of the pressure off.....thing is it's the same story , can we score a goal!!!!
  18. If we could get a win today and Southend are beaten at Leeds 3 teams look doomed and a win against Southend at home would go along way to seeing us survive!!!!
  19. Rochdale 2 down at Torquay....doing their best to throw the title away!!!!
