  1. Load of old tosh if you ask me. Hope he doesn't Welch on the deal.
  2. Frannie Lee played for City I think and I remember the big orange special match programme.that was my first season too.
  3. December 1972.My 10th Birthday. Dad took me to see Latics v Bournemouth. Drew 1 all. Remember vividly walking up the Main stand steps and suddenly seeing the vivid green pitch set against the Old Ford Stand. The noise of chanting from the Chaddy and smell of cigars hit you as you rose to climb the final few steps. From then I was hooked. After that first special occasion of having a seat, We then stood on the Chaddy, back right as you looked at the pitch on the Old wooden part that moved as people stamped their feet. Saw many great teams, players and games. Andy Lochead, David Shaw, Alan Groves and brief cameos from Tony Hately, Martin Buchan, Mike Fillery and the like. Fast forward through two promotions, founder members of Prem. And grass then plastic and back to grass. And so many great cup runs. The plastic did allow me and countless others to play on our home ground, a rare treat that probably not appreciated at time. Takes me up to today when I took my Dad for first time in 20 years and we again sat in the Main stand. Same view only this time a nice new shiny stand opposite and , for first time ever, I got to wear shorts and t shirt to a game at Ice station Zebra. Promise of free scarf next match! So we lost , but spending time with Dad, recreating memories afresh and bumping into old School mates topped the day off. For 99 minutes today I was just a kid from Derker again, going to Latics with Dad.
  4. Looking forward to getting a scarf.last one I had disappeared in the late 1970s and my first one was a two sides affair.one side silk and proclaiming us div 3 champs but that was nicked off me in the Chaddy circa 1975.
  5. Wilkins. Once as a teenager?for Chelsea when he scored at the RRE . Second time for QPR when he had an argument with someone in the Ford stand paddock.
  6. Yes .I agree that was fantastic display.i was in the Rochdale road end hanging on the hoardings and got to throw ball back to him. Made my day that he said thanks; I was only 11.
  7. Bought 2 season tickets .first time since the mid 90s Chance to relive my early days as a supporter although never saw them in old div 4 . My first game was 3rd div against Bournemouth prob dec 1972. Let the good times roll again.
  8. Yes remember him scoring a free kick at the Rochdale road end for Chelsea. Sometime mid 70s. In those days we saved money by standing in the 'Away end. so we were in among the Chelsea fans. He seemed a great advocate for the quiet expert when commentating..something the newer guys could learn from. My word..... ..
  9. Angling for a compliment I think. NB, I understand he's great mates with Gary Bream and Conor Salmon.
  10. The team sheet as read out when I first went regularly at back right of the Chaddy. Pipe smoke, Mouldy old dough and plenty of goals !!
  11. First game in 5 years for me,due to illness, and really enjoyed the obvious desire to play football and agree Clarke and fane are quality. Bonus was the sight of woody, still walking like a full back, looking over his shoulder, and Hicks looking every inch the centre half of old. Agree with previous posters re the cheese and onion pie.
  12. I've got to go with Ogden Wood whittle Blair Edwards Clements McVitie Shaw Halom Bell Groves
  13. Internacional of Brasil in mid 70s, I was stood as a teenager in the old Rochdale road end, we lost 1-0 ?
  14. Yes one of the first matches I went to sat in the ford stand was Jimmy Frizz's testimonial v Man City, when Frannie lee was still there. When we won the 3rd div , stood on the Chaddy singing Frizzels name, supporting latics was simply fun, bring back those days.
  15. When football was played in proper shirts, no advertising, and what a winning team we had. I'll never forget as a 11year old going to see latics at the old town hall for the civic reception, hanging on the railings outside the war memorial. Plus sitting on the hoardings by the chady end goal and throwing the old white balls back to either Oggie or the visiting keeper. We always gave their keeper a good round of applause at the beginning of the half, does this still happen?
  16. I certainly have great memories of sitting on the wall of the Chaddy as kid and handing back the old heavy white balls to Harry, who always had words for all us young uns. Was also in goal the first game i went to v Bournemouth December 1972, I think. Shame to see demise of heros, a la Alan Groves and now Harry Dowd. Bring back Green keeper shirts.
  17. In no particular order 1) the redfearn penalty, the atmosphere was electric before we scored and indescribable after, although days later heard Stuart pike's commentary-still brings back memories to this day 2) the 'we are staying up' chants for a good 15 minutes after the 4-3 Southampton game, with Joe's lap of honour and all us on the back row of the Ford ( lookers) Stand dancing on the seats-on leaving the ground got many congratulations from the s'ton fans 3)promotion season 1973/4, at least 3 six nil results at home, with such scores as Tony Hately ( mark hately's dad !), Andy Lochead and my particular favourite Colin Garwood overhead kick v Grimsby, as I used to sit on the Rochdale Rd end wall , by the left hand post, and to see goals close up as a 11yr old will stay with me..... 4) Playing Internacional of Brazil in a friendly, not sure what date, but in mid to late seventies 5) Anything and everything that Big Al Grovesy did Against Latics, bobby Moore's spectacular own goal playing for Fulham, December 1977? Cantona's debut at half time for LUFC, getting ball from kick off and running length of pitch, only for pitch to run out on him! Ray 'butch' Wilkin's free kick for Chelsea at the Rocky Rd end, and realising that standing in that end, to save 10p was not such a fun option any more Andy Coles hatrick for Toon Army, one of first sky games I think? Oh and one personal one My refereeing of a game on the old plastic pitch, between Girobank and my mate's firm at the time, and realising as a ref, you struggle to see the penalty box lines if you are more than 20 yards from the challenge- you go with who shouted loudest!
