  1. Although I'm not one for a regular pre-match pint the fact that we've not got a decent fans bar, at least for home supporters, is a big missed opportunity.
  2. It would have to keep for a couple of weeks in some cases and cask would struggle to be decent after that length of time. They serve what they serve 'cos it's easy to keep, you've a captive clientele and the majority of them would drink it. If you want a decent drink a sports arena is not the place.
  3. Perhaps Wellens thought that centre mid was his best position but he was hoping he could do a job on the right side of midfield to accommodate others, and was proved wrong. As I've said before he could be a match winner at our level if he wants to be, but fear he won't fit in with the current regime, or maybe any. This would be a great shame for Oldham Athletic, football in general but more specifically for Byrne himself.
  4. Can agree to some extent with this but maybe Byrne didn't fancy playing there so didn't lift a leg to track back to help his teammates. We've probably all done jobs that haven't suited or we thought below our perceived status but you just get on with it and try to impress on your superiors what you'd be better at.
  5. Tracking back involves picking up an opponent who's moving towards our goal not just wandering back when our goalie or defenders have the ball.
  6. Was semi-pro at one time but have now descended into lower league amateur !
  7. How come I know about the injury then ? Or am I Barry/Corney or someone else connected to the club to explain your ignorance of the fact.
  8. Would suggest if you expect a decent pint from a pump that's only used sporadically that you're a bit of an amateur drinker.
  9. I can understand him being frustrated at being played out of position but he needs to ask why he was ? It's because the manager couldn't trust him in centre midfield to cover back, make a tackle or even "get involved" when he lost the ball. This was shown graphically when he played wide right, did nothing to assist his full back and Dummigan got slated for getting caught out by two opponents. He has the makings of a good footballer but his attitude stinks, sometimes great to watch with the ball, poor without it.And to those saying he has a "winners mentality" then it's about time he showed it on the field with a bit more effort to help his teammates not jumping up and down like a spoilt three year old when things don't go his way. Personally I'd be sorry to see him, and his undoubted talent, go but not if his sulky attitude remains. Probably the main reason we got relegated last season was a lack of togetherness in the squad and the Jack Byrne of last year could hardly be described as a team player.
  10. The most damning evidence is the fact he's with us. If he had no baggage he'd be with one of his previous clubs, in a higher division.
  11. Dressing room with him and Joey would be ................................ interesting.
  12. Suspect Clarke will be involved against MK but it was said at "meet the manager" that he wouldn't play in every game. George and Sam looked OK today so wouldn't have any qualms about them as an admittedly raw defensive pairing. On another note thought O'Grady led the line well and could do a stand-in job until we get more bodies in. He's obviously short of pace but would be an ideal partner for someone like Doyle..............................
  13. Hang on a minute. I don't read his tweet as saying he has problems, just that Robbo's being a bit hypocritical in the video compared with his alleged track record in this case. Maybe, just maybe, he wasn't aware of the lad's family circumstances. Perhaps it's not all as black and white as some see it.
  14. Whilst I agree it's a target, being realistic unless we sign a couple of decent centre forward types I fear we will fall well short. A lot will depend on Frankie and Andy's wheeling and dealing getting the necessary players in. Ultimately this will decide, in some peoples eyes, whether they are judged successful or not. The hand they've been dealt isn't good at all, but it's not always the best hand that wins the pot !
  15. Ambition is a wonderful thing but realism must hit home sooner or later to some of our fans. Not saying we should aim for mid table safety but in our current state it's more probable than a full-on charge for the title. Here's hoping I'm wrong.
  16. Like a lot on here didn't know the man and as a fairly new recruit haven't had a great knowledge of his posts but as mentioned previously his stoic approach to the shitty hand he's been dealt was something all of us would strive to emulate. The number of tributes already posted speak volumes for the high esteem he was held in by those who did, and didn't know him. Night and God bless x.
  17. We'd all like to see that but there's only one person who can make that happen !
  18. If the rumours are accurate it could be the first tackle Byrne has made. Thought he put a lot of effort chasing down etc.. into the first half last Tuesday. Either he's bought into Frankie's work ethic or he's playing for a move. Hope it's the former.
  19. Just imagine he's said it ! It really doesn't matter what anybody does or doesn't say, it's his actions that will speak volumes. I don't get the obsession of some supporters with the need for bland pointless statements of alleged intent. Would "we'll try really hard to get promoted this season" suffice or just be a rod to beat him with.
