Boring boring Oldham

Bleeding hell, there is some premature ejaculating going on here.

I am sure it was not pretty, but

a) Its our 3rd pre season friendly, can't surely count Steaua

B) Seems pretty hot and humid, hardly great conditions to be running around like headless chickens

c) We are several players short of our team that will start the season.

d) 20% of the squad were trialists.

And already some have written off our season, and decided how we are going to play.

And conveniently ignore the other games performances.

Better check, but am sure the most negative posters offered no such comments after we beat Newcastle.

We are not going to walk this lead after beating Newcastle, but nor are we going to be relegated by September by drawing with Melbourne City.

Maybe distance adds some perspective.

I still don't get some peoples rush to for a judgement.

Reminds me of what Spike Milligan said he wanted on his tombstone "I told you I was ill"

"I told you Latics were crap" .I am convinced some want us to be relegated so that they can derive some perverse pleasure from saying "I called it on pre-season"

or "I called it once we changed our name from Pine Villa"

Eh?

I went today. Stand looked great. Brown, Kelly, an Dayton played well. I'd like us to be much more attacking at home, an finish top half. I don't think we will sadly. Does that mean we're :censored:ed? Er, no.

Think you an others like pigeon holeing people. Or moaning about perceived moaning. It's message board. Why does anyone have to have an agenda, instead of just an opinion.

I think we'd all like attacking, pretty football. But if come Christmas we're in the top half, playing a defensive 4-1-4-1, with one up front hitting on the break, I'd be pleased as punch.

We wont hit anyone on the break at home - teams know how we played / play and will come for a draw unless they are a top side.

Spot on. We're not hard to figure out. Home games will be a stalemate. Away side happy for a point. An us supposed happy just not get beat.

I get why LJ is doing it. I really do. But I don't think we 're clinical enough to get enough wins to justify the vast majority of the football being hard to watch.

People give opinions on what they perceive based on what they have seen so far, and the indications are the home tactics look no different than ;

last season when goals were scarce.

My take has not been all doom and gloom as the interplay looks much better, and some good players have been added to the squad, but that's no good without an end product, playing DP,Turner and Bove on the wings will ruin them and I can't fathom why LJ is doing this, they are all off the shoulder strikers by trade.

IMO all that's needed is a creative left winger and a striker who knows where the net is, and an a more attack minded tactical set up for home games.

Great post - this is spot on for me.

The final ten games of last season ensured our safety - but the style of play that LJ adopted was designed to make us difficult too beat and it worked. There are lots of positives going in to the new season, however the thought of watching that style of play at home for a full season does not fill me with excitement for the season ahead.

Surely we have to play a more attacking approach to bring a few more into Boundary Park. LJ himself recognises that we scored too few goals at home last season - due in part to how he sets the team up. Too early to tell but the early formations deployed suggest a similar cautious approach - I hope LJ moves to a more expansive game at home as it is much more enjoyable to watch.

No agenda just an opinion!

Jeez just think how bad the doom merchants are going to be when we bring a couple of loans in!

Doom merchants and happy clappers, your opinions are welcome, but expect them to be challenged, that's what happens on message boards.

Personally, I have no objection to a a couple of loanees, providing they are in positions the team desperately requires.

We need to wait and see when the season starts. Part of the problem yesterday was that given we are adopting a cautious approach players are not fit enough yet to get into the box and get on the end of things.

Aren't the wide players and defenders a bit slower too though? Surely that evens things up a bit.

But that was happening at home in competitive games last season when the team was supposed to be the fittest around, the problem is a negative approach, and we have seen in both home friendlies the initiative offered to the away team in the first 15 minutes, just like last season.

If the manager wanted to change these tactics he would have done it by now. I think he is happy with the containing game home or away, if it gets results the fans will generally go along with it and gates will improve, but if it fails ls like last season at home matches expect attendances to dwindle further.

Personally, I hate the over cautious approach, but that's my view and don't expect everyone to agree with it.

Why would they not be fit?

Pre-season not like it was in the bygone days where players downed tools for 2 months.

I think people who moan about the moaners moaning are only moaning at certain moaners are nowhere to be seen when there's little to moan about.

Not at those who are just expressing valid concerns and who give opinions on the good and the bad.

Unfortunately, some don't recognise valid opinions good or bad and just argue for sake of it.

Going back 12 months everyone was expecting us to be free flowing winning 3-2 one week and losing 5-3 the next.

We then brought in several defenders and eventually found played 2 different styles over the course of the season. It's abit difficult to judge how we are going to do from preseason

We have a few weeks to go before the start and several to go before the transfer window shuts more players will come in. Perhaps even the odd one we weren't expecting.

am i the only one that couldn't care less how attractive the football we play is? we've been in this league far too long, im all for anything that gives us a chance of success! sod the pretty passing, if we can grab 1-0 wins at home all season i won't be complaining!

you say bad football won't bring back the crowds, but if it's effective and winning us games that puts us in the top 6 i have no doubt that fans will start walking back in!

And that pretty much sums up where i am at.

I saw all of the last 10 games of last season, and i didnt enjoy any of them, from an entertaining football POV. I appreciated that the tactics and thus the results they got saw us safe, but feck me - it wasn't good to watch.

I hoped LJ would have used it as a basis to build on, not to merely continue with it as was.

Have to say, i'm not looking forward to my ST if home games turn out to be as they were last season; and from this pre-season to date, it does look like all the idications are that it will be...

Years ago, i wouldnt care how the 3 points came about, it was just about the points. But, when you now have so many other things to spend your money on; i want to feel i'm getting value for money from my ST. I want to see decent football, and i do want to be entertained as well as seeing the side claim points. A season of grinding out draws at home, low scoring games and dull & uninspiring football doesnt appeal; and i dontthink there is anything wrong in expressing these concerns. I want to watch decent, attacking & exciting football from us. We showed it can be done; but it seems to gone in favour of draw specialists tactics.

When was the last time we, successfully, played attacking football?

If we can replicate the last ten games of last season we'll have half a chance of sneaking the playoffs.

Under Dickov august 10 to feb 11 was pretty good and attacking and considering the squad we had pretty successful. Shame he never really built on that excellent start.
