BP1960
Great to see both sides play out and out wingers, a thoroughly entertaining game, unlike the sterile fare churned out by the first team. Pity TP never fancied being a manager, his style of play maybe old fashioned, but it certainly brings attacking flair and goals. If we get new owners his work will reap rewards when we start playing his kids in place of other club's works-in-progess
NewBlue
This isn't a criticism of TP before anybody starts, but would you rather have a youth team which is successful and solid or one which has an abundance of individual talent but doesn't perform well as a side? Flemboy
I would not mind some of these younger players being on the bench and seeing what they can do in the first team as cameos for starters. Cant do much worse that the bunch of average loanees we have and at least they are our players and will play their hearts out for their team. Get them on the bench and then in the first team .......before we sell them on
yarddog73
Any decent ones we get through go for peanuts and the ones we're left with struggle to bridge the gap, draw a wage for two or three years and are then released and go and play for Curzon or Hyde. All the players on the verge of the 1st team during pre season are all out at clubs like Ashton Edmunson aside none are ready for first team action. If you put them in against league 1 oppo you will quickly see how much worse it could be

Defensively (apart from Edmondson) you have a point but in an attacking position why not give it a try. We did in pre season didnt we? the lads that came on up front barley touched the ball. its why they are out on loan, to learn...
yarddog73
Glackin played in the game against Manure in pre season and was out shone by Jake Cassidy, that gives you an idea of where he's at.
yarddog73
On the other hand Edmondson has shone in the last two pre seasons yet hasn't really been given a chance, having the foundation of a youth team is completely pointless if you chop and change manager three or four times a season, invariably they are left out at the expense of the new man's signings and if they are given a chance they are quick to be dropped for one poor performance. Shez gave him a chance and he took it. A change of manger never helps in regards to youth but Robbo obviously thought he was getting a better player in with Burgess which I dont think many can say they thought differently at the time. It hasnt worked out that way but hopefully he can come back in January as cover for Clarke and Gerrard
