What contribution do you have to give to become a board member?

Depends which era.

From Circa 2006 to 2022 you just had to eat free pies, and announce yourself at away games with -  Oldham Athletic director coming through.

There’s no legal requirement to have to ‘contribute’ anything. You’re appointed to it, initially by the shareholders or later by the existing board of directors. It comes with a whole host of duties, though I’m not up to date on Latics’ size and status and what difference that makes.

Directors’ duties

That said, in theory you appoint a director for a good reason. Skills, investment, succession planning. No idea what this chap brought to the table, but as a private limited company there’s no reason to expect it to be publicised.

There's a feature on him in the Oldham Times. The Rothwells brought him in when the takeover wheels started to motor to act as a sort of legal project manager. Given the speed in which they got it over the line whilst dealing with an utter basketcase like Abdallah and a hardened businessman like Blitz suggest he's best in class. It sounds like it was his choice to step down to pursue other interests but his value was most likely when we were transitioning rather than now.

Given the fulsome tribute from the family (which goes well beyond the usual formulaic tributes on such occasions) and Peter Norbury's CV, I'd suggest he brought quite a lot to the table.

Magnificent. The argument for double upvotes has just been strengthened!
