  1. Matt Chambers ‏@Matt_chambers_ Heard that Dickov walked down tunnel as soon as Walsall third goal went in #oafc Expand 7m Matt Chambers ‏@Matt_chambers_ Players not back out on pitch for warm down yet. Unusual #oafc PD may resign rather than be pushed, just looks better
  2. PD gone - Corney won't find defeat acceptable and Yeovil is another loss with them bang in form - he has to act now whilst we are not in the R zone as if we are it will be mentally tough for the players and PD has shown he cannot change it. So sad as again he has attracted class to the club but if you can't get it to function is it worth it? So wanted him to do well and succeed with us and for the cup game to be a turning point and will feel like crying when it hapens as he has given it everything and seems like a thoroughly decent bloke. I think we will all feel a sense of sadness when he goes, unlike everyone being happy and good riddance etc. Bye Paul and genuinely thanks for trying. Phil Brown or Billy Davies please Simon
  3. 21 points off 6th 7 straight wins in the league - thats the target for the short term to the team - 1 down this coming saturday, 6 to go. We can do it and NEED to do it. i'm being positive, but thats just me i guess - doubt we will get there but rather aim for something like that than 'just doing enough'
  4. err..........massive thaw starting tomorrow and throughout sunday!! 6C will shift it soon enough together with the rain chill
  5. as above - lose tonight and with games in hand we are well in it no tactics at all, hoof to the big guy - EVERY WEEK its Simpson 'well, no we don't look to play long ball, it's just an option' - have we then EVER gone and played it to his feet at any stage? PD initiated? players using their :censored:ing brains to pass the ball to his feet?...........NO! 'if the lads give me what they gave me today we'll be alright' EFFORT is a given in any walk of life - football is a challenge - so is life Paul! If you don't give your all in your job sooner or later it'll be noted and you'll be out on your arse. Thats JUST why the players love him - never gets angry, never really drops players, only when it seems he HAS to and has read this board! Great bloke and won't ever not be welcome at BP which is good, like Shez (Although he is a legend regardless) all you can ask is that the manager tries their best, treats the fans and club with respect and if it doesn't work out it doesn't and PD has done that as we can all appreciate, in difficult financial circumstances. HOWEVER - the squad we have, the 50+ players he has brought in in his time - the over-budget backing SC has given him ala Derbyshire etc and the big squad towards the end of last season - the horrendous runs we have gone on the whole of this season, last season and his first season - no tactics - no attacking intent in a proper manner - no goals - playing people out of position just to play them ala Simpson LW when Hughes is the logical choice aside from Montano - not playing the kids in the right positions ala Mellor in CM or Winchester at RB or giving them a run - no fight from the team whenever we are 1-0 down or drawing in a game And the general awful aura that our current team displays is just the end for me - we are missing Montano and Furman from our current shambles. Furman won't make a jot of difference as he is just another DM of which we have 3 Furman, Mchang and Wes (case in point re PD) Montano is the only one you could say would add a threat to us So 2 players missing out of the squad - not exactly Baxter missing is it - not an excuse. Sorry Paul enough is enough 'just wide, heartbreak for latics, unlucky, ever so hard, just not going for us. ENOUGH IT'S NOT GOING FOR US - because we aren't attacking with any intent or putting our foot through the ball hard enough IT'S NOT HEARTBREAK FOR LATICS - fecking defend properly IT'S NOT UNLUCKY - Make it happen!!! put the ball in the next, get on the end of a cross etc IT'S NOT NOT GOING FOR US - Work harder to score as a team and defend. Players have it so easy and cushy in terms of a real manager - someone like Phil Brown and Davies would tell them how it is and whip them into shape when they aren't doing their jobs!! Time to go Paul, thanks for trying ever so hard but you have had enough time, three squads plus extras and we are only going backwards. Your downfall? Going defensive after Feb 2010 - why? only you will know the answer. Billy Davies in - if not then its Adkins or Phil Brown for me - had the Hartlepool job but wasn't allowed to bring staff in - no probs here then and the Preston job was taken from him when he again wanted to restructure their backroom processes amid budget cuts can't stand all this 'he wouldn't come here with no money' - there are countless managers out of work and we are (one hell) of a challenge - although IF the stand is built we have a little light in the dark tunnel of our future - anyone an ex-manager and wanting another job will apply END OF. Go NOW so we can have some hope and fight on Sunday with a new man or at worst Tony Philly BYE PAUL, oil the hinges on your way out!
  6. typical latics, not doing their jobs to the last seconds yet again - defeat after defeat whether deserved or not - time for someone new to get these players playing attacking football and able to win games - talent is there, tactics and know-how from the management isn't, sorry PD, bye bye
  7. typical latics, not doing their jobs to the last seconds yet again - defeat after defeat whether deserved or not - time for someone new to get these players playing attacking football and able to win games - talent is there, tactics and know-how from the management isn't, sorry PD, bye bye
  8. home kit is 12-14, changes every 2 years, away kit every season. 13-14 - same home, new away 14-15 - new home, new away and so on
  9. Mellor is our :censored:house - he has the bulky build, can carry the ball, pick a pass and has a great left foot as seen at Scunny and last season - rarely put a foot wrong for me when he played and if he did it was only because he was being played out of position at LB rather than as CM or at worst at LM where logically he can use his left sidedness to aid the team. If i am PD and Montano is out, i need another LM. The only one i have is a youngster in Connor Hughes. Oh well it's all i've got - he plays, ready ot not. It is no wonder we create :censored: all and are such a soft touch game on game when players play out of position ala Simpson on LW - not sure what he is but he aint a LW! Joe pushed Marshall from the back to up top cos he saw something, put Mellor in there alonside Wes or Furman and do this: week 1 vs (as an example) Notts - Wes/Furman - YOU are defending/holding at all times today, Mellor i want you attacking and making forward runs whenever you can. week 2 vs (as an example) Cov - Wes/Furman - YOU are defending/holding at all times today, Mellor i want you attacking and making forward runs whenever you can. And so on. If they don't do it within a 5 game period, they are out of the team and a kid/other midfielder brought in who will, i.e. you MANAGE and have some balls to tell the players what to do. Fergie would rip their head off if they didn't do what he said and the kids would be in without hesitation. Furman is NOT undroppable because he is an international/captain (and SA must be :censored: if they see him as a regular) and same for whoever - IF THEY DON'T DO IT THEY ARE OUT of the team, simple. But he doesn't and won't ever see it or have the balls to stop being nicey nicey and be a manager. Great at getting the players in and to stay, and when JB going makes us £500k plus rather than £0 then we will be indebted to PD in getting him to stay - but it is pointless having your Baxters/Derbyshires when you do not service them as a team, pointless. Oh how JB and Smith would perform with a consistent ball carrier and runner from midfield - it immediately allows them to run towards goal anticipating the ball through and the wingers to immedately push up the pitch rather than hanging back in our own half whilst the midfielders park a fecking bus on the edge of our box 'keeping their shape' As proven on Saturday, Winchester always had the first thought to turn back and pass it back - both through fear, not being a midfielder (in my eyes, don't see what he brings to that position and see him as a RB) and no doubt PD's instructions. The moment he decided to use his in-game brain and make a run forward 5 yards he received the ball, took it on and almost scored.................. Is it REALLY that difficult for PD to see this and yet do :censored: all about it, or is it just me? Oppo managers must love playing us knowing that our midfield 2 never attack, bliss. As pathetic a midfield two - or rather the use of them and management of them as i have ever seen in my time as an all-i've-ever-known-is-league-one supporter of Latics. When Coventry and Notts complete the inevitable wins, i expect PD to be packing his bags if Corney sees it in the cold light of day,
  10. friend is a donny fan with a very reliable source over there - 'absolutely no chance according to my source' end of discussion - and yes i would be extremely suprised - PD has done nothing, at least Saunders had got Wrexham up/nea the top.
  11. YET AGAIN people not looking at the issue properly!! If you recap on the SC interview on bbc when DP left, as he rightly says there are only ever 40 or so jobs available in the football league in terms of managers jobs so there will always be good applicants. People like Davies, Cotterill etc if they truly want to get back into football again WILL apply! These people can't sit around waiting for a championship job to arise - sure they can apply for these jobs but they aren't all going to get the same job time after time. Phil Brown was signing on the dotted line for Hartlepool until they didn't allow him to bring one or two of his own staff in - you don't go for the Hartlepool job if you want big wage budget or transfer funds - and theyre on less crowds than we are!! Low budget people say?? AGAIN - SC said preseason that we had 12-15th budget this season and i'll bet we have gone over that to an extent to continue with our loan deals etc Tranmere have factually stated they have a bottom 4 budget and look where they are - sure some luck has been involved but they aint got the best players in the league or the best manager, but he has them organised and doing their jobs to the best they can invariably each week AS A TEAM As scunny proved recently, you can get a team up there with the right setup regardless of budget - Hill had Dale in the top 10 after they had come into league 1........... SOD, Davies, Hill, Brown, Dowie - if the stand is truly imminent then SC can use this as a tool to state what is possible in the medium term future. Q is, how much does he truly want us to succeed? decent managers like Davies will cost £ but has the skills to get us going and be competitive Come on SC DO IT!!
  12. pity these kids......... http://www.davepenneyfootballacademy.co.uk/index.php interestingly on this old interview http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/o/oldham_athletic/8665408.stm 'it got to the stage where we were winning one, losing a couple and drawing one and you couldn't see a way out of it' de ja vu??
  13. Yet again another one spouting this budget rubbish - SC said pre season we had a budget around 12-15th mark so in some respects being literal, we are about where we technically should be. We do need investment but i'll say it again and again no one needs to be world beaters in this league to do well - get the right blend of players all scrapping for the same thing and you have a chance - budgets are not an anagram for the word 'team' Scunny, Colchester and now Trannies all prove this to be true - and for the record Ronnie (not saying he is the manager we should have etc, purely finance related) has said they have a bottom 6 budget. Granted wheels fallen/falling off but hey, look where they are - swap places? damn right. Nice guy and great at getting the players in but waaay to soft on them - defeats evidently don't hurt them and i mean hurt them - i have never seen a group of 'professionals' be so casual both when drawing a game and trying to win it let alone losing and fighting for a draw etc - disgusting. 'footballers have a hard life' i hear them cry - no you :censored:ing don't - show some god damn passion and pride and that's 1-11. Agree in getting people like Mellor and Taylor in - drop that wimp of a 'captain' for starters, :censored:e the past 12 months. Wes has too been poor but does the DM role better than DF IMO, and have Mellor as the driving midfielder with his power, pace, effort, forward mentality and passing ability - this then opens up the room for the wingers to get higher up the pitch and to supply the strikers = goals and wins #shock horror# Dead easy to beat us - PD has the philosophy 'get our wide men in the game and get crosses in the box' - notice nothing from midfield here, hence the cagney and lacey defensive double act. So.....you mark our wingers out of the game as you know our midfeild aren't going to be firstly able to pass a bleeding ball forwards let alone make runs and carry the ball forward at pace, due to a combo of the player himself being beyond thick to think that the strikers dont need support and a manager tactically clueless. Hey presto - nice easy win. 'We've been saying to Dean to get in the box and attack' - he has done it properly for 2 games this year vs donny and preston - he clearly hasnt done what PD tells him to - is he dropped?? no - because he is 'captain'.... tut tut you can never drop your captain can you...... If we genuinely had a Ritchie type situation ala all we had to play were kids and the odd freebie then i am damn sure we would all be admiring PD for the job he was doing under those circustances... BUT - given that both him and SC want better and have amassed a talented league 1 squad it is not acceptable. Thanks PD but not good enough in tactics, managerial balls, performance, demeanour or effort given the decent squad we have - time to go.
  14. honestly? yes, but in the context of the season, categorically NO. The way we have played in general with the quality of 14-15 players (recognised first teamers) we have managed to amass has been very very poor, as have the results. Had our squad and first team been full of kids, absolutely 16th wouldn't be bad and we would have all pretty much accepted both the position and performances given the calibre of players available to PD. However, as well as he has done again in getting established players to join us, with this comes a greater, and rightly so, expectation of performances, results and overall finish. We have and are underacieving so far this year, in more ways than one. I do not for one minute accept the 'we have not got a pot to piss in' rubbish - granted we haven't got the biggest budget but i'd wager we have by no means the worst (12-14th i'd guess). Whilst Tranmere and Stevenage are in the top 6 with lower budgets and calibre of player than we have, then i'll say we're underacheiving. Just shows you as Scunny did years back that you don't need players with loads of individual ability - have a manager who knows what he's doing and make a team committed, organised and score goals when needed and that's all you need. Poor poor so far...............
  15. from today and up to Forest, 6 crucial games. 18 points to claim, 3 down. Testing time after MD leaves until he/another comes in, but for me its all in the midfield anyway - Smith and Simpson up top with JB can work if people are around then when they need it so........... i'm expecting Swindon W Yeovil W Donny D Crewe may just D Scunny W 14/18 points gives us 37 - bang in there likely around 7-10th with just less than half to go i am of the same view as Phil Brown said today - aim for 6th until impossible - otherwise what are we playing towards, just doing enough?? That's not trying to challenge yourself as a player, manager or club by any means at all. 6th is ours!!
  16. very well done - now go AGAIN lads next week - GOT to keep the performances going and imperative that Furman KEEPS playing as an Attacking Midfielder....do it and the performances and wins are following. I don't want to see our 2 midfielders in a line when we are attacking EVER again with the forward options we have! Only problem comes when Derbyshire goes back for a month til mid Jan (likely return time?) - Leon Clarke possible?
  17. 1-0 down Created :censored: all again tonight judging by LP - the usual predictive pattern. 'Wabara runs with it, to Croft, back to Wabara, to Byrne, Byrne looks long over the top for Baxter but Baxter doesn't get to it' Now get caught out by a quick free kick and Gordon/Roy then use the excuse that Latics weren't ready 'a bit unfortunate that Roy'; like its ok to let in goals as shoddy as that. Point is, another nothing performance - 3rd or not there is nothing between any of the teams in this league - Donny being poor tonight and us worse. Grounds at LW when it is not his position says it all, as well as he did on Saturday (only bright spark), PD needed to do whats best for the team. Team cannot put more than literally two passes together and i have lost count how many times I have heard 'poor ball from Furman, Furman turns back for the reverse pass' Wes off now and not his golden boy Furman....hmm..... It's not going to change and our performances and attacking purpose is so pathetically inept it is beyond a joke. Sunday league teams show more adventure and ambition! Sorry Paul, good players brought in but :censored:ing clueless tactician - time to go. (Queue the -'s)
  18. wonder what we would be like with a forward options of Tounkara, Baxter, Derbyshire and Simpson (Tonk for Smith) pace, power, trickery.......ooooh
  19. our record is P19 GlsF 20 1 goal a game - just. I am not criticising the getting the 6 points out of 6 line, fantastic and well done. But its this attitude of 'hey, it's 3 points and thats fine' - we have been playing as :censored:e as yesterday with defensive tactics, an inability for players to control, pass and keep the ball and a lack of goals all season barring the :censored: or bust Crewe/Preston games and for much of PD's time. Its not alright because we have played and will continue to play this way for future games and expect to get results. PD's gameplan is get it wide and get our wingers wide - we never do because they come inside and when they do get it there is no one to aim for aside from Derbyshire as the rest of the team is stuck on halfway!! I have never known a team with the ability of our first 14 players, goo decent established at our level, to be so defensive and ridgid. No one ever does something off the cuff aside from maybe a moment of class from Baxter and when we attack we are so lethargic to get forward its untrue. It's ok though, we will accept 17th when we should be at the minimum 12th and looking upwards and continual poor tactics and team play. Just don't come on here wondering how it happened when we got dicked 4-1 vs Bmouth and will likely against Donny. It's acceptable to play as :censored:e as yesterday and win, sure, except not play that way every week with no sign of a desire to improve it or attack teams like we intend to win the game.... Keep your shape lads, keep your shape - sod the shape (CM in particular here) - if you run forward a man has to go with you or else your unmarked!! Not rocket science.....
  20. Either the manager tells him not to = worrying Furman really is thick and has no genuine desire to attack, the same for Wes = worrying
  21. utter :censored:e again aside from the goal - but what do you expect with Baxter missing and a defensive midfield? not one of the players has it in their heads to control a ball, pass it and KEEP IT - the one time we kept the ball there were moans in the main stand and then we scored!! Again PD says 'when Smith plays we go long too early' - :censored:ing do something about it then!!! Smith should have it played to him at ground level and then (when they can be arsed) get the midfield 2 forward - sick of the players longing it when thye have time to control and pass it and find a man. The amount of times we did try and pass it 10 yards it went to their players - are we really THAT bad?? Get Furman out and Mellor in - someone who will get the ball, carry it and has a good left foot, with Wes as the defensive one. Also, get on the men BEFORE they get the ball instead of sticking your arse out Furman marking the space, then when your man has already passed it you close him down!!! Sick of our defensive tactics - no dynamism to our play at all and even both wingers come inside. 6 points but only just - SORT IT PD or GO!!!
  22. Billy Davies 1st choice Iain Dowie 2nd choice. Ideally - PD would be man enough to let Joe come in as a number two or coach, much like Freedman at Palace. PD has been great at getting the decent squad together but for whatever reason cannot get them playing. Aside from those above, Phil Brown but did :censored: all at Preston Theyve all :censored:ed up somehwere though thats why theyre out of a job except Davies who i thought was harshly sacked........... Q is how much does Davies want to get back into the game - close to Preston where he lived, decent team on paper and a challenge Tough one again though.......
  23. he's in it for the money though, didn't you know that............? TOP BLOKE - not wanting mediocrity and clearly contemplating a PD change if things don't pick up. Agree budgets dont matter said it since scunny went up - get the right team together and GET THEM TO PLAY and budgets mean :censored: all Thats the thing - i think our players are of such a respectable calibre and once played higher that theyre a team of individuals when all said and done - certainly shows on the pitch although 2 defensive Dave's in midfield not having the brains to run with the ball doesn't help either, Remember Furman - if you run into the box your man has to go to otherwise you would likely score, creating space for others, not rocket science.
  24. Taylor managed to blag 18 months worth of consecutive starts when not warranting a place, a couple of sub appearances is a drop in the ocean
