I was going to wait to interact here until the season started but after reading the Meeting the Manager Results thread I thought that this would be a good time. That thread blew me away with the report on how LJ interacted with supporters and also how much you guys like the man. Which I'm sure has a little or a lot to do with – well – meeting with supporters. I'm fans of a few teams and hang out on those forums as well and no other supporters are as supportive of their manager as they are here. I'm sure that can change at some point but for now I think it's great. I grew up around (American) sports all of my life and even worked for the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball Club for 6 years. NEVER have I seen a manager/coach meet with supporters. Let me expand on being a “fan of a few teams”. I'm new to the sport entirely. 2010 World Cup hooked me and I've learned everything that I possibly could in these past three years. I took my time finding a team in England to support and of course I was drawn to the EPL because of more television coverage. I chose Everton (and now Hull City). Last season I wanted to start to learn about the Championship and somehow gravitated toward Hull City. I got to watch only two Hull City matches on American tv. I mostly followed through their forum and Twitter. Pretty interesting experiment actually.Now that they've been promoted, I needed to find another team outside of the EPL to follow. Enter the F.A. Cup. They showed the Liverpool v Oldham tie here on tv. Delighted with the outcome I was obviously hooked on OAFC! Then I got to watch the Everton tie. I literally found myself torn and was somewhat disappointed when the referee blew a call and subsequently the game. I can't remember what the call was but I came away thinking that Everton got really a lucky call from the ref and things could have been different. Needless to say I found that another side to follow. I know I won't be able to see many -if any matches but I am looking forward to this season none the less. Having said all of that, I am sure that I'll have questions about the team throughout the season. I already have a couple- like is there a site for match highlights and where can I pick up an OAFC baseball cap (E-bay has none that I can find). NewBlue Posted August 2, 2013 Share Posted August 2, 2013 (edited) If you want to keep updated, listen to live commentary of matches and then see highlights afterwards you can subscribe to 'Latics Player' for a small fee on the official website which provides all of these things throughout the season. Also, I would think that the club shop sells baseball caps with the club badge on it. I'm sure if you called the store they'd be able to send one over! We tend to have games with more "what the hell was that? But when the moments arrive they are sweet, it makes all the bad stuff go away. dec666 Posted August 2, 2013 Share Posted August 2, 2013 I'm not sure what the international rights are but over here you can watch highlights on the Sky Sports website a couple of days after each game. If not you can sign up to Latics Player on the website for about £3 a month which has highlights as well as live audio commentary of every game, as well as interviews etc.. We are on a bit of a high right now and we wont always be this happy with the club we all grew up with. But things are seemingly going well. We havent been stuck in this league for 17 yrs for nothing though so be prepared for the lows as well as the highs. We do have a few ex pats out in the States though not sure if any are close by yourself. I presume you're in Florida which is a good state for british based Latics fans to visit the USA, maybe one or two would meet up. Any questions you may have just fire away. Two years ago Botlon came to play the Tampa Bay Rowdies in a friendly and I think everyone had a great time. Of course it was hot as hell even for me. It'd be nice to get the team here of a friendly!I've had to postpone two trips to the UK in the past 18 months. But I will surely let it be known when I do get there! I didn't take it as a dig. I think it's a great point if I understand correctly. I do think it's a privledge seeing your team play and sitting, chatting and drinking with like minded fans. Especially to those here in a foreign country since the teams we support and like rarely - if ever get to play here. Not to mention the cost of travel for a fan here to get there. The same thing happened to me 56 years ago. There is no cure. So save yourself before the season starts otherwise there will be no turning back. If you decide to stay, warn your friends and relatives so that when your demeanour alters to suicidal on Saturday evening (or whatever the time is in your neck of the woods) they will know that 'Latics lost!' Laticsplayer have promised that this season we will get "extended highlights" rather than the 2mins we got last season.The last time we had extended highlights they were about 20min long, so here's hoping that we'll get the same or longer this season.
