To be fair he was always conscious, chatting, kicking his legs occasionally and he scratched his nose and rubbed his forehead. It’s more precautionary than anything I suspect. From what I saw last week, it's because we haven't the players to play the ball out through feet. Depressingly, it's probably the right way currently to go because at least you lose the ball further upfield with more of your players behind it.
