opinions4u
I'm usually a mild mannered individual who, if he detects trouble, moves carefully in the other direction. My instinct is to respect authority. During injury time there was something going on in the exit tunnel that I didn't see. Stories of stewards holding a Latics fan down by the throat. I didn't see any of it. Another relatively young (teen?) Latics fan ran towards the tunnel (not at any great pace) in an apparent effort to see what was going on. There was no sign of any aggressive intent on his part when a steward (no.27) moved forwards and pushed him hard with both hands. A nice friendly copper who witnessed this then took the Latics fan down the tunnel in an apparent arrest. I did make my feelings known to said steward and the Chief Steward (who was uninterested). I've not seen the lad since but if he's spent a few hours in a police cell or is facing a magistrate next week I would be more than happy to provide evidence if needed. Please get in touch. If he's just been chucked out and that's the end of it I will be sending a letter of complaint to Doncaster Rovers anyway, for all the good that will do. I can't stand by and watch somebody get dragged through the courts for being assaulted. Edited August 30, 2014 by opinions4u
Magic Mikey
I've had it at Sheff Wednesday back in the day. There was a total over reaction at Rotherham last season, a minor infringement could have passed by with a quick verbal warning and instead turned into a big incident antagonising half the crowd. Shame they can't tackle paedophilia with the same vigour. :censored:.
MAC0AFC
that steward just wanted a fight and was looking for it as soon as the young lad walked towards the exit, i thought the police officer would of had a word but apparently not

disjointed
Now I am not sure if the lad you are talking about was called Daniel, he sells programmes at Latics. Just saw the tops of heads as I was still up at the top. I know him and his family, I will ask him when I see him.
LaticsPete
South Yorkshire Police is probably the most morally corrupt force in the country. From through the miners' strike, through Hillsborough right up to Rotherham today, they have been riddled with lying, brutality , and incompetence. If he'd tried to barge past the steward and had encountered reasonable restraint I'd be completely uninterested. There was simply no suggestion that he was trying to get down the tunnel. The only aggressive act was that of the steward. Then in steps the copper to cart the Latics fan off.
underdog
Just a suggestion but is it worth reporting the assault you witnessed direct? Or are you waiting to see if you can identify the latics fan. He didn't have Ginger hair did he?....a latics mate was singled out on the footy special last week at PNE but like I told him, his hair makes him stick out in a crowd and the copper agreed with me too...Ginger and blond stick out a mile....soon be winter and wooley hats can be worn. Hope both fans are okay.....

Then in steps the copper to cart the Latics fan off.I'm not so sure about that, but it was a definite over reaction by the steward, and was definitely over-aggressive towards the young lad. I got the impression the young lad who got pushed by the steward was mates with the young lad, who rightly got carted out by the stewards to spark the incident. I saw the lad who started it by being a nob after the game and he looked fine, but he was off to a cop-shop somewhere I'd guess as he was in handcuffs. The stewards prior to that seem actually quite reasonable, although I'm not sure what the first person to be escorted out (after about 60 minutes) had done wrong. mikebOAFC
I always thought people exaggerated how backwards SYP were until a few years ago when one tried to physically drag me onto a train to Manchester at Doncaster station, despite me being alone, sober and with no colours on...oh and explaining several times that I live in :censored:ing Edinburgh.... I had it 2 years ago at Sheffield station, being told to just get on the next train, despite the fact I was with my son and his friend and we were waiting for my wife who had been shopping in Sheffield with her friend who lived there. Although Latics Lee turned out to be an utter dickhead, it was the right course of action to get witness statements together and getting him off. The club were supportive, Barry was completely uninterested at first but got involved when he realised how out of step he was.

Don't you think that our "fans representative" on the Board may be an effective conduit to express your concerns at Board level to Doncaster? daniel
I saw that incident and let the steward no exactly what i thought of him, that could have got a lot nastier, totally ott reaction from the guy, he was just a bully, would love to see him try that with an older latics fan!!!! Thought up until then the stewards were good, didnt bother anyone, then that prick spoilt it!!!
opinions4u
Don't you think that our "fans representative" on the Board may be an effective conduit to express your concerns at Board level to Doncaster?Possibly. I'm a tad cautious on that one as I'm not totally convinced Latics have quite got their own house in order on stewarding. That said, I've never witnessed a similar event at BP. Other than the arrest of a Burton player celebrating an FA Cup goal at the RRE a few years back. Just a suggestion but is it worth reporting the assault you witnessed direct? Not without a victim. And while it was a hard two handed shove that would certainly meet the definition of assault it wasn't exactly a fists flying beating being dished out. The steward was well out of order though, as was the copper. Or are you waiting to see if you can identify the latics fan. Got it. If he just missed the remainder of injury time and been sent on his way I'm not that bothered. If he's up before the beak next week on some trumped up charge linked to what I saw I want to do the right thing by him. Even if another trip to Doncaster wouldn't be my preferred choice between now and ... Next season. I was impressed with the police during the Boro game, Magoo called them in to try and make the usual suspects sit down, the coppers seemed to be saying that they aren't doing any harm and left them to it. Magoo had to shuffle off with his tail between his legs. Wouldn't have happened in South Yarkshire.

The cops hadn't really done anything up until that point, they hadn't needed to. If they have carted the young lad who was only trying to see what was going on with the other one down the cop shop I'll give O4u a lift to Donny as he hadn't done anything worth warranting that. The other one on the other hand...

pukka
My mate was the one thrown out at rotherham lsst year. He went to court. He got off as the steward and coppers statements didn't match. Most said he was "on the pitch", but the CCTV footage couldn't be found. (He wasnt on the pitch) All said he was celebrating a latics goal (it was 1-0 to rotherham at the time) Edited August 31, 2014 by pukka
ShireBlue
After the 2-3 win at Sheffield Utd a few years back, my mate and I had a nut-job come up to us outside the away end and asked us for a scrap. He followed us up the street so I approached one of the long line of coppers on the same road. He stared right through me and wouldn't give us time of day. Wankers. I've sent the link to this thread via Twitter. If it ties in with a trend linked to the steward concerned then maybe something will be done.
