singe
hasnt he been here a since before all the Evans stuff happened? Not sure. According to the Chron, not. It will now be SC, Barry, Gee, Joy. Sounds like the Bee Gees.
oafc1955
Yeh, I'm sure he's been here for a couple of months....what's the new Commercial manager called and doesn't he start his appointment anytime now?

Formally ratified sort of thing? Strange that it appeared int he Chron, or were they getting mixed up with NJ being appointed?

jsslatic
Meh. Before recent events I'd have said excellent appointment, club's interests at heart etc. For me all those involved in the Evans circus have sullied their name. The only top brass to come out with any credit was Richard Taylor and he's of course gone. Edited January 21, 2015 by jsslatic
ghostofcecere
Barry's stayed on the board too........ no end to the embarrassing media interviews then. Great.
Dave_Og
I know it's feasible technically but for the life of me I have never understood how it is remotely practical/sensible to have a Chief Executive who is not on the board.

laticsrblue
Latics article on Owen becoming a director. Owen "I am pleased to be continuing my Directorship with Oldham Athletic..." Surely it was The Trusts directorship not Owens.
Stevie_J
Chief Executive and Football Secretary Neil Joy has become a Club Director. http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/news/article/joy-joins-board-of-directors-2217428.aspx So the directors who were "unanimous" about signing Evans all sticking together. The one who had the intelligence to think it was a bad idea, and the balls to say so, gone. Happy days.

underdog
Do we not think Barry staying on the board will not strengthen the advocacy for the new trust oldham rep? He does believe the trust should not give up this seat nor does the committee and unless I have totally mis-read him, I can't believe he would jeopardise the overall future of OAFC. In my mind an extra asset, ears on the board. I'm not expecting him to gossip/divulge all that he may be privy to know but I believe he will be more of a help than a hinderance and may strengthen our position on the board However I could be wrong and have misjudged folk in the past..once bitten and all. No, the ex-copper being on the board is only good for a limited number of people. The ex-copper and his relatives/friends (who might use his free ticket or be invited to enjoy the hospitality) Any current or former players who have criminal records and their hangers-on, especially their agents. We had another lifelong fan on the board, he quit rather than be associated with the hiring of the rapist. He did so because he was concerned with both his reputation and that of the club, rather than a personal belief in the rehabilitation of offenders when it suits him. This entire fiasco has finally officially confirmed what many have be confident of: The copper looked after the copper, not the organisation he was supposed to be Chair of and the club. opinions4u
Do we not think Barry staying on the board will not strengthen the advocacy for the new trust oldham rep? My own view is that it's a hinderance. You can hear the "we've always done it this way ..." type comments blocking any fresh ideas that are brought to the table. I also think the decision to continue with Barry is because of the unpaid work he does for the club, not his wider expertise and business acumen. I am genuinely concerned that the board appears to be a group of Corney's yes men. While I don't advocate an adversarial approach on every issue from the Trust's next nomination as a director I do think it would be refreshing to have the odd public disagreement coming out of the boardroom.
