Now bear with, this is a long story...

I decided, after a current season hiatus - due to chairman ‘issues’  - to watch the Latics v Salford game with my two Salford supporting mates, in the Chaddy End.

Due to incredible buffoonery on my part, we ended up going thru the wrong turnstile and into the North Stand.

No problem. We’ll tell a steward and he’ll take us thru the gate.... into the Chaddy... won’t he ?

NOPE He immediately said he couldn’t do that. And now that he knew we were Salford fans we couldn’t stay there either. He then escorted us from the stand - ironically a much further distance than just taking us through the gate - and said we’d have to pay again to get in the Chaddy. Wtf.  Real customer service right there.

We then went back to the turnstile operator who, helpfully, asked a different steward to get us in the Chaddy.  Oh no. The little Hitler steward wasn’t having THAT. he shouted to the helpful steward that she was NOT  to help us at all. Then wouldn't let tell us his name and walked off.   He was really getting off on it.

We then asked the deputy steward. A Neil MYERS  who wouldn’t own the problem and said, with sloping shoulders, that he wouldn’t do anything other than sympathise. Pathetic.

We went to the ticket office, on the way asking ever so politely, to any steward if they could help. Shoulders were shrugged. No one wanted to know.

Finally, after 20 minutes stood in the ticket queue, someone took ownership and got us in after speaking to the head of security. Exactly what should have happened before.

We maintained a politeness throughout, yet were treated like criminals. Only this last guy showed any respect, and I thank him whole heartedly.

To Latics:

This guy represents OUR club. He isn't fit to do the job. WE are your lifeblood, your CUSTOMERS. Without US you are nothing.

to the little Hitler, you sir, are a twat!

So that's why there was a bumper gate yesterday...

Seriously I went in the home end at Northampton a couple of seasons ago. The only place I had an issue was walking across the tunnel bit but was soon escorted to the away end.

To be fair most stewards are young adults earning a bit of a wage over a weekend while still watching football, it's more than their worth to take a decision like the one you needed. They all properly come from an external firm too.

You'd expect the deputy head steward to have a bit more sympathy and common sense though.

This guy wasn't young - he was fat, balding and in his late 40s.   I am also fat, balding and in my mid 50s. Not an obvious hooligan.

It's the same guy who slowly walked over to the streaker….

I'll send an email to the MD and let you know the results.  I am a season ticket holder of 25 years - only stopping this year for obvious reasons - It was embarrassing to call my self an Oldham fan to my mates tbh.

On a related(ish) note, I arrived at about 3.30 yesterday. There were no North Stand turnstiles open and I knocked on the exit gate at the RRE side. A steward opened and I asked where the late turnstile was. He initially told me that it was too late and I couldn't come in (even though I had an ST) but he quickly relented and let me in.

He was perfectly helpful but I find it odd that there isn't a late turnstile (at least in the NS) or at least a protocol stewards are aware of for late entry.

I was supposed to meet a couple of friends in the RRE yesterday but by mistake inadvertently ended up in the RRE family stand.  I walked down to the supervisor on the pitch side gate and asked if he could let me into the main RRE section to meet my friends. He told me there were no transfers allowed and wouldn’t open the gate. Supervisors should use some common sense and initiative. The cost of entry was the same and I’m 65 FFS!!

Mistakes are easiiy made, and easily rectified. There's too many jobsworths and no common sense. They treat us like animals, and it discourages real fans. If people are polite, and make a request, then as customers, the club (and its representatives) should do their utmost to help wherever possible. Its called basic courtesy, and is practiced by most successful businesses. Away fans, home fans alike -all customers, and, when well behaved, should be treated accordingly.

As far as I know, the club has some stewards employed by the club and some stewards are provided by a seperate company Taurus Security

The ones employed by the club are usually the ones that have done it for a while and usually understand the fans rather than the ones who are just like club doormen etc.

Couple of Leeds fans turn up in home end at Huddersfield for example, I can't imagine their stewards saying no worries lads, we'll take you across.

This is exactly what they did for me at Bury. Me ,my mate and his dad. We just said we’d accidentally come in the wrong end. (We just avoided queuing) he said no problem we will get you sorted. Spoke to his supervisor and walked us through.

Well if they do they do but you certainly can't complain if they don't.

Why would they help you move from the home end to the away end? Can't imagine any club doing that.

I once went into the wrong side of the East stand at Carlisle with my young son and we ended up being shepherded through their fans to a sliding metal door at the far end,

There are some decent types that actually help you and thankfully so in our case.

Trouble is, if you are in the wrong end, and oppo supporters find out (I don't mean making of obvious by cartwheeing if we scored) and all hell breaks loose and they still have a problem to sort.

Millwall did it for me and my dad, at half time in the 5-0 game when they confirmed the title a few years back. Was quite hairy being in the home end until they started battering us.
