Mellon could be an inhibiting factor here. The way he's frozen players out and his talking down of the current squad would set alarm bells ringing for me as a potential employee.

If the money is right- players will sign. It’s after they sign and start talking to the incumbent squad that worries me.

Could be, couldn't be. Players talk to each other and have a wide network. If it dissuades one who doesn't like to bust a gut, but pursuades one who has a strong work ethic it might not be a bad thing. Players might look at him as a serial promotion winner too. Definitely two sides to view this, depending on your outlook.

How many of the incumbent squad will talk favourably of Mellon?

Hudson?

Not a question you can honestly answer since I don't know them personally. As don't you.

Look, I get it. You don't like MM. The way he goes about it all eats under your skin. Anyone would think you were in that dressing room and you'd react negatively to him. It might be an insight into your personality, y'know?

Wow. . had to make it personal. 😂😂

Interesting.

I just asked a fair guesswork question based on your guesswork point. If we talked about things we had first hand experience of- we wouldn’t post anything- so it’s kinda the point of the forum- chat shit about Latics.

I liked MM when he won football matches, I’ve cooled on him when he doesn’t win football matches. If he wins again, I’ll start liking him again. It’s not difficult , or shocking, that’s his job.

Seeing as though we’re doing cod psychology on people we’ve never met. Perception is projection my friend. 👍🏻 Speaking for myself I would love to play for Mellon, because I think if you do the basics he’ll have your back. But seeing as though I’ll never play for Latics, it’s not about me- is it.

I admire what he’s trying to do, I question his methods in doing it.

Yeah, more often than not it comes down to money. Obviously some have different motivations than others but in football it’s usually the case that money talks.

I’m not sure where I read this, I think it was an Alty fan group last year as I joined to get a bit more info on Lundstram. A couple of apparent ITK lads at Alty said that Lundstram didn’t really want to leave them but we offered £600 a week more so he couldn’t really turn it down. An extra 2.5k a month on anyones wage (except like championship and above level) is fairly life changing money even at our level.

Spot on.

I think that will go for 99% of them at our level, another 25k a year/couple of grand a month is not to be sniffed at- especially in a short career.

Interesting.

It wasn't  meant as a criticism of your character, I'll make that clear. But the lengths you go to visibly show your displeasure at the methods MM seems to be employing seems to be beyond the pale for me. It feels like you're desperate to be proved right.

Whether the methods of calling out those who just won't cut it with him - when the bulk of the team are still contracted beyond next season - works is something we'll see play out in time. I'd like to expect that the dressing room won't be like some kind of gossipy knitting circle with pissed off incumbant players **cough cough Hogan cough** having poisionous little quiet chats with new signings in the corners of dressing rooms, Trojan horse style. So what if a bit of that seeped out publically. Bad culture has to be rooted out by the man in charge. I'm backing him to go some way to doing that. You're expressing severe doubts about it.

Not at all, if he turns it round - then happy days.

On my displeasure being beyond the pale, that cuts both ways- I find it really odd when people look for the positives or excuses for poor performance and/or results.

Nobody knows what’s happened, all we have to go on is performances, results, and what said in the media.

To my mind I just form a view on what I see, hear and read.

When he did well with no signings- I was his biggest cheerleader.

When the new signings had no material affect- I questioned his choices.

When we won 1 in 13 - and he did the interview- I question the validity of what he’s saying and the lack of personal responsibility.

My views will change with what I see- if performances and results improve and the proof is in the pudding- I

wont question what he’s doing.

If performances and results don’t improve the pressure will continue to build- that’s just football.

Agreed.

I actually want you to be right- in that, the players don’t bitch and whine, they get their heads down and they all buy into the culture. However that would mean they leave their ego at the door and realise there’s something bigger than themselves. . .

Time will tell if he’s made the right call.

Bit of noise on Hartigan that Mansfield have let go. Was on loan at Barnet this year.

Got in the team of the year. Only 24 looks like the type of midfielder we need. Can’t wait for him to be complete useless haha

Jeff king released by chesterfield says he’s a full back

MEN confirm Madden to chesterfield

Is this enough to disqualify King under what may be referred to as the 'Colclough Rule'?

On 19 April 2016, King was charged by the FA with misconduct under Rule E3, allegedly using abusive, race-related language in a match played on 5 December 2015 whilst still at previous club Ashton United. He was subsequently suspended for five matches, fined £100 and ordered to complete an FA equality course

If MM wants "specialists" in certain areas then I don't think King fits the RB bill.

Pete Wild signed him as a winger for Halifax and converted him to RWB. Good going forward but not as good defensively.  Could see him doing OK with a proper RB behind him or if MM'S plan is to go gung-ho and simply outscore the opposition - which I  somehow doubt.

Maybe you won't always see what goes at Championship level but as we've just played an entire season with it there's a player at Blackburn called Smodzics who is rather prolific.     In fact he's amazing, best striker there since Alan Shearer, he really is phenomenal.

Rovers very nearly got relegated at the weekend, managed to stay up, but if they had gone down I strongly believe Smodzics would have been sold.      As Oldham is quite near from Blackburn it's something of a romantic ideology but he could have dropped down a league or two and gave a season or two for you there.
