North Stand Construction Thread

Recommended Posts

Yes but a usual pre season only probably sees a handful of people wanting to view a potential seat. This year 100% of the home crowd will not have seen the facilities, checked the leg room and considered the roof cover from the rain.

Interest will be much much higher than usual and id imagine an open day will be much more cost effective than just showing people round as and when they ask to see it

Getting my first view of it in the flesh on Saturday. From the pictures it looks much bigger than I imagined it being!

It reminds me a lot of the main stand at Orient. Brisbane Road is a quality ground too, the old stand for away fans, two good stands behind the goals (terracing for one would make it even better) and the main stand which is impressive and improves the feel of the ground despite only having a 3k capacity.

It's taken a while but it looks like it's going to be well worth the wait!

Are the changing rooms not going to be in the new stand because I can't see a tunnel for the players to come out of? Unless it will be at one end of course.

initially was the idea back in the Oldham Arena plans but all is staying as is in the main stand

Staying in main stand to maximise the new stand's earning space.

I do like the idea of the new main stand being used for all things commercial.

Hopefully the current main stand will be ripped down and replaced with a basic stand that stretches the full length of the pitch with good changing room facilities underneath.

I think the players entrance and changing rooms will be moved to the new stand eventually, possibly nearest the CRE if as said previously the corners are filled in. With the car parking space and access available the new stand will surely become the club's main stand and official entrance.

If we can get into the Championship and extra capacity is required, even though space is limited I'm sure a new stand can be built on the Furtherwood Rd side to accommodate 5000.

Finally a new CRE stand could push capacity to around 20,000 which is as much as we will ever need even if the dream of a premiership return is realised.

Would be fantastic, but to be honest I can't see the economic benefits of doing so unless it too can be commercialised in some way. I don't expect to see much change after completion of the stand, as anything beyond what it will bring will mostly be aesthetic.

I don't see the changing rooms fitting in the new stand at all. They would eat into the facilities provided, it hasn't been designed with dead space. I think the existing changing rooms will be kept until the main stand is demolished, which should be some time yet. Even if it is closed to supporters before that time.

Not too sure about the economic argument. I suspect that the Main Stand maintenance costs are quite substantial. It may be that over a 10 year spread the costs to build and maintain a very basic build new stand may be similar to the maintenance costs of the old main stand as is. If you could also build room for the Further Learning centre underneath said stand rather than paying for portacabins at the side of the Rochdale Road End you may save even more.

Possibly - interesting thought. Hopefully, assuming the cash flow is in place, the current build will run smoothly through to completion - I have heard some suggestion that the stand could be opened without the facilities being completed - following which, Corney may be in a position to set out the club's ambitions.

Ultimately, I think the real hope is that the new stand both brings in revenue, and attract exiles to a point where we can comfortably average 5000 at home again. If so, that may add to the case for further development.

Finally, it really does look like we will have a stand to be proud of.

It's looking spot on isnt it? The roof makes its so much individual - even though obviously other grounds have stands with roofs (!), the shape and style of this one is pretty darn individual.

But - i'm still siding on the old Karl Pilkington arguement and wont be switching from my current base in the MSP, even though i am an exiled Lookers Paddock-goer.

I'm going to prefer to look at out quality stand from across the pitch, rather than sit in it and look at the tired old MS.

Keegan said yesterday that apparently it needs to make £750k a year to break even.

I wonder what SC is hoping to make out of it each season then as it is intended to be adding to income. I still think it should have been bigger, giving more seats and more income generated from larger spaces to rent. It would still probably break even at the same amount.

It's looking pretty bloody fantastic and I'll see it for the first time in the flesh tomorrow. I'd have loved to have seen it developing live, but not been able to get to BP until now. The time lapse camera has been a good watch for us exiles, though.

More seats only make money if filled and in terms of the retail units, gym etc, the building is going to be quite sizeable. Being that the former plans were a lot bigger (6 stories rather than 3), I don't think it was a case of choosing this size and saying it was fine at that, it will be dictated by the budget and funding (or lack of) available.

I think you will find there will be 4 not 2 (tunnels for spectators) for the whole stand.

From the artists impression here and from reality it seems that the 2 tunnels that will be on each end of the stand are very close together. I presume there are safety rules and regs regarding the number of seats and number of tunnels required, but as they are laid out the tunnels at the far ends of the stand will only cater for a few spectators.

Maybe it's been designed that way to allow maximum use of space under the stand, or maybe it's been designed so that when the corners are filled in with seats there will be no need to build any extra tunnels for them :)
