In The Chron, LJ said he's pointed out to JC-H the need to add more finesse to his strikes in order to break his goal drought.
“He is actually a very key part of our squad now. You stand or fall by your decision-making — and he blazes at everything, doesn’t he? Sometimes it’s better to have a bit of feel, to feel it in or bend it round to someone.....He is getting in a lot more through better movement and people picking him out. But I can’t be out there to whisper in his ear to calm down a bit in front of goal.”

From the Rhys Turner videos it looks as though he's already learned what is needed to take chances when created.

From what I have seen in the videos of this lad (nothing much I agree), I reckon if he had been on the end of some of the chances that JCH has had, most of them would have been put away, not blasted as hard as possible in any direction bar between the sticks.

So has LJ or PM said anything about whether this lad is a first team signing or will we not see him until next season?

Looks like he can finish but League 1 is a big step up from what he is used to.

Let's hope he is one of those gems that other teams always seem to sign while we look on wondering why its never us.

He's travelling to Swindon apparently.

Successful strikers plucked from non-league, it's got me thinking. I wish we'd take this sort of risk more often;

Ian Wright - Dulwich Hamlet to Crystal Palace.

Les Ferdinand - Hayes to QPR.

Kerry Dixon - Dunstable to Reading.

Craig MacKail Smith - Arlesey Town to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Stan Collymore - Stafford Rangers to Crystal Palace.

Kevin Phillips - Baldock Town to Watford.

Jason Roberts - Hayes to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

DJ Campbell - Hayes & Yeading to Brentford.

Jermain Beckford - Wealdstone FC to Leeds United.

Charlie Austin - Poole Town to Swindon Town.

Jamie Vardy - Fleetwood Town to Leicester City

Dwight Gayle - Stansted to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Matt Smith - Solihull Moors to Latics, you have to give Dickov some credit for this....!

Interesting, though it extends over, what, 25 years? I doubt if there are stats on these successes as a percentage of non-league strikers taken on by FL clubs.

And its becoming harder to attract non-league players because of the wages paid outside the FL , plus earnings from other jobs. I think Latics do keep an eye on non-league , it's discovering the gem at a price we can afford, that's the challenge.

If my memory serves me correctly...Wayne Andrews,Fitz Hall, Ernie,Ward

Successful and Strikers?

Wayne Andrews [Chesham to Latics] didn't really go on like the list above though did he? One good season with us, one with Colchester and after that not much else.

Fitz Hall - Chesham to Latics - was a Centre Half.

Ernie Cooksey - Crawley to Latics - was a midfielder.

Mark Ward - Northwich Victoria to Latics - was a midfielder.

One Size & Mark Ward went on to have decent careers, Ernie sadly had his peak with us.

My cousin (he's a bit of a tvvat), Mark Williams was signed from Newtown (League of Wales) by Shrewsbury......before moving to Chesterfield when they had that Epic FA Cup Semi Final at OT, against the multi millionaires of Middlesborough with Juninho, Ravanelli and brigade.

He then played for Northern Ireland and Watford / Wimbledon in the Prem before going onto marry the biggest porn star in the UK.....Linzi Dawn Mckenzie....!

That's more impressive than my football family relation. My mums aunt is married to Joe "judge me on my signings" Kinnear.

Wayne Andrews went to Palace and played in the prem. It may have been due to The Dowies but Chesham to the premier league within 4 years(?) Not many can say that I bet...

Yeah, but we was bobbins for Palace. Never scored in the Prem and only got 1 goal in the Championship for them before finding himself back in the lower leagues..... he was no Ian Wright, Les Ferdinand, Stan Collymore et al, that's for sure....!

All I can say is I remember Mark as a kid at Crewe, a very unassuming and polite lad.

I don't know him Lags. Mark is same age as me but he grew up with his grandma rather than my Aunty (my dad's sister). He then moved to Mid Wales (think he was late teens).

He was at Crewe BP.

Definitely came out of his shell later on though... I remember playing Chesterfield at BP and him annoying the whole of the Chaddy by dragging an injured Latics player of the pitch..... Think it was Paul Reid?

Ferdinand, Roberts and D J Campbell all from Hayes... ...now that's a pretty good production line if ever I saw one!
