Colchester (a) - Match thread

Clarke can be a hero or villain but today, 100% hero.   I thought our defensive unit was superb today.  Iacovitti seems to have slotted in really well.

To win 2-0 away against a top team and an awful ref was a top performance.

We shouldn't get carried away but you can tell from the reaction at the end of the game the team knew todays result was massive.

It is massive! Those 3 wins put us back in the mix without! We’re floating in mid table

Agree with most of this...…..but, in my opinion, both Edmundson and especially Iacovettii are good defensively but need to work on their distribution.

I only saw highlights but Iverson looked pretty handy again too

Today was a great result, even though Colchester's promotion wheels have come off somewhat of late.

A pity that some late goals make the slim play-off hopes even more so but who is going to complain with PW's results?

I would say that Lemsagam is going to offer Wild the job and he could do no worse than apologise to the fans, admit that getting Scholes in was a hope of boosting the club's profile and attendances and that, in hindsight, he acted with haste. Whatever it was that rookie Scholes brought to the club, it clearly didn't work and Wild is using his deep reserves of experience to ensure the season ends on good terms.

I honestly do not expect Latics to finish in the play-offs but as long as they are knocking on the door, then it keeps things bubbling over and ensures at least a positive finish.

it was a game of two contrasting halves yesterday. In the first we were very much in control, dictating the pace of the game and generally nullifying the Colchester attack. The early goal helped to settle the team and the gifted second was deserved reward for some enterprising play. Colchester did have one moment when their striker was through on goal only for Edmundson to recover putting the forward off his stride. The  halftime stats reflected our superiority in the first forty-five.

The second half painted a different picture. We came out and looked slow and off the pace going forward. Colchester by contrast definitely upped their game. They were quicker and more robust in the tackle and we sat back (or more likely were pushed back). The home team dominated for long spells gaining a succession of corners and free kicks. Iversen making his customary worldy from a Dickenson free kick and continued to show his improved aerial form.

But the team dug in and competed superbly at the back, winning headers and getting blocks and tackles in to thwart and ultimately frustrate the home forwards. Maybe the flu virus that has been going around the club started to have an effect? Despite being under the cosh for most of the second half, Lang and Nepomuceno did bring decent saves from the home keeper and one mazy run by Afolayan almost created a chance for a third.

The Man of the Match? The defence.

And a huge shout out to the 254 who made the journey - great support throughout and support that was well appreciated by the squad and management at the final whistle.

Despite what is going on off the pitch, Wild has turned things around on it. He's a breathe of fresh air. Sensible, realistic and speaks a lot of sense. Seems to be getting a tune out of the boys.

Solid first XI. Lang on fire, Nepo back on form, defence tightened up and mistakes eradicated. Remember Baxter and Dearnley to come back into the match day squad too.

Makes the last few games interesting at least, especially if we can get a result against Wellens lot on Sat...

Just seen on soccer am that Lang won the megnuts of the week and received the t shirt. He said if he scored at Colchester he would reveal said t shirt. Did he do that or not ?

Yes ... it's on his instagram!

As good as Baxter was under Scholes, he can’t slip straight back in after 3 wins on the bounce.

He was good under Scholes... the team was shit though. Might be something in that.

What about 3 clean sheets on the bounce...

Last time we won 4 on the bounce in the league was across the summer break under Lord John:

16/8/8 - Leeds A 2-0

9/8/8 - Millwall H 4-3

3/5/8 - Crewe A 4-1

26/4/8 - Cheltenham H 2-1

In one season (also under the Lord):

1/1/7 - Forest H 5-0

30/12/6 - Gillingham A 3-0

26/12/6 - Rotherham A 3-2

23/12/6 - Northampton H 3-0

3 clean sheets (yep, him again):

25/2/17 - Milwall H 0-0 (Ripley saving pens)

18/2/17 - Swindon A 0-0

14/2/17 - Charlton H 1-0
