Not able to make the forum but would love some pressing questions (and no silly ones that waste time) to get an understanding on how the manager will approach this season. Could anyone attending please put these forward?

Main things on my mind would be:

What are his plans to form patterns of play (of which we saw none last season) rather than hit and hope?

Does he think the division has changed and progressed since he last won promotion from it and how does he plan to combat that?

And finally - why do we insist on booting the ball directly to the opposition or directly out of play from kick offs, given it has a success rate of about 0.04%? It sets the tone for negative football.

You can't prove anything with stats... :)

Crawley

Article here from the Guardian. Looks like they had a really rocky start then turned it around the catalyst was bringing Scott Lindsey to the club to manage the team but they've used data to help sign players from L2 and Non-league. They have clearly done it better than us. But if we are to sum it up the data analysis is there to help people not directly replace them.

You are right, Crawley identified a player on his statistics, but scouted him and noticed he could be better played in another position. He turned out to be one of their top players.

I'm a way an analysist might do the same with Will Sutton and find he's best at centre back.

I asked a former manager why the ball was booted up so often to the opposition centre backs. His answer was "Well there's a 50% chance they will head it to one of ours".😆

Sutton won't progress unless he learns to push up in a straight line !

I thought he did just about OK when played at right back until he tried to do things he wasn't capable of.

Don't try to beat a man just practice knocking balls into the box first time.

Doesnt look like it. They released the video of the last one a couple of days after the event I think. So hopefully will do the same this time. I want to hear what Mickey’s favourite ice cream flavour is.

They have to be on a fan relationship building mission more than anything else really. Would be good to have next season’s captain there too.

Q: In the interview following the Wealdstone game you alluded to 'bigger things that you haven't brought up' but this wasn't expanded on. Can you expand?

MM: When we came in we recognised parts of the first game definitely the second game there was a definite need for a certain type of player and person we were going to need if we were going to be successful. They were the only weapons we had so we couldn't talk about that at the time.

We can't speak about that until the last game of the season because we've still got a lot of those players with us. That was me saying we've known for a long time in certain positions and areas of the football club, certain characters, our culture we expect to achieve, the type of player we expect, the attitude we want to make us successful has been missing. We've had quite a long battle in order to try to move it closer to the culture or level of player to make Oldham successful. It's been tough, one of the toughest experiences that I've had as a manager in 17 years. We have a big expectant football club and we've got to deal with that, but also you know the stuff that's going on behind the scenes and you have to keep that to yourself.

We're not satisfied with the way things have gone, we are still way off the challenge and we know the types of players... I know what good looks like. I know what I want to see standing in the technical area.

We're trying to bring in ones who can get to that level or make ones we've got here that, because we have got some good players here. You have to make sacrifices to be that player that will make Oldham successful. We're still in the battle.

Q: What will be the preferred style next season or will it be dependent on playing squad. Will we see a specialist RB and are any academy players able to step up?

MM: We want to try to get a right back. The type of football we want to play, we want to get forward and be comfortable on the ball, I want to overlap and underlap and get high up the pitch. To do that we have to get centre backs who want to play. I want midfield players demanding they want the football. I want them to show off to you. I want front men holding it and attack the balls into the box like their life depends on it and score some goals (applause)

Basically, there are players that he may have to use next season that he doesn't like and doesn't want. He isn't going to tear into them and name them publically.

Q: Is there a season ticket update?

LR: I think we've just tipped over 3,000 today which is better than we were expecting. It's the same as where we were this time last year, 10 per cent down in numbers but in terms of revenue it's the same. Season tickets are a massive element to player budget so thank you for that.

He's hardly going to name individuals or go into the specifics of things that aren't for public knowledge.  No one should expect him to.

There's bigger things going on that he can't go into details about.  That' all he needs to say.

A piece of piss if you just want adequate. Probably a lot harder if you want one that's going to play at L1 with ease in 2-3 years time.

Absolutely no way on earth we're going to start this season without at RB. There will be a Wicker Man with MM and GB inside it on the club's car park if it came to that.

Fairly certain I was bashed at some point earlier in the season for having the gall to suggest the players had a weak mentality and couldn't deal with any sort of crowd.

Turns out I was spot on. Again.

Posted (edited)

Some kind of exciting news that Luke mentioned a few times that we can’t quite announce yet, that he seems very excited about and which will be a game changer to the club bringing in money 7 days a week. Get the feeling it’s linked to little Wembley and finishing the north stand and surrounding areas and definitely heavily involves the council….
