So this is a fan led group that already has enough funds in place to purchase the ground? If that's the case surely it can get the club as well?

You’d think so... all a bit backwards if u ask me. Let’s hope they have some serious cash to get us back up the leagues!

Just a reminder that Jason Flynn MD of JP Morgan is now part of the Trust.

I think that is the reassurance needed.

Who is this? Just an Oldham fan with a top job or one of the potential investors?

When I see the amount of money spent and the debt incurred by clubs trying to get back up the leagues I seriously question what the future holds for all but the elite. 🤔

Blackburn’s financial figures are frightening, Aston Villa’s too. And there are many many more clubs with similar financial burdens - burdens that may eventually bring down many once proud clubs. Look at what is happening at Bolton. All in the pursuit of getting up the pyramid to the promised land that is the Premier League.

More and more these days I wonder if football is losing it’s soul.

Indeed.  Peterborough and Rochdale are often pointed out as clubs who are well run and have used scouting and the transfer market well, made good money from transfers etc, but look where both are.  Rochdale heading back down and Peterborough never seem to really threaten promotion to the Championship.  I'm not knocking those methods, both have done really well on the transfer front etc but it's becoming increasingly all about the money. Unless you chuck x millions at it you'll struggle.

I used to think mid table Championship was a good target to aim for without a huge backer, but it seems the absolute best you can hope for without a backer these days is to bounce between Championship and League 1.

True but you gotta dream... no fun knowing we will never rise again.

He is a fan first and joined the Trust about November time before anyone heard of the fan led buyout.

Original we wanted to use his skills with regards to the fans bar at the OEC but now there is a bigger plan and he has those skills needed

Thanks

We may never rise again to the heights of the early 1990’s. But I agree with the sentiment that ’without dreams you have nothing’.

I will never lose the hope that one day we will be a well run club that is a vital part of the town and community. A club that attracts the people of Oldham in increasing numbers to the home games, A club that has the facilities to make the time at the ground enjoyable and welcoming. That, along with shrewd management on the pitch, can only lead to better times. Then it does not matter so much that we are playing our football lower down the leagues. Then we will have a club with which we can feel an affinity. Hopefully players we can relate to. A club we can be proud of.

Days like Fulham Away show how good following Latics can be. I want more of that feeling, whatever level we play at. Let’s get our footballing soul back.

I don't think it is back to front. The buyer may not want to own a football club. The Trrust is mainly volunteers, who probably are not able to run one full time.
I'm just a member of the Trust so cannot give an definitive answer, but we know from previous comments prior to this that the Trust definitely did not have the funds, and are not flush with cash. Their involvement is sensible given their charitable Trust status, Supporters Direct liaison, and now JP Morgan link is very recent and it is clear they now have access to funds on better terms rather than cash in the bank or some other avenue that is subject to standard non disclosure terms . But they may only be putting a tiny fraction in, I simply do not know, but happy to put my Trust in them.
It was announced last night it is expected to be completed by stat of next season so it is moving but rmember Blitz has been around since  the back end of 2018 hey are [correctly IMHO]  taking a professional approach to the owner, the change (from their point of view) to being more demanding is only very recently post Scholes.

I think their involvement in the stadium is by invitation, but it gives us more protection, and a potential benefit later if it is all sold together.
Just my view.

Should be clear here.  The link isn't with JP Morgan (as far as I know); it is to a Latics fans who happens to work there.  The term "Managing Director" should not be viewed in the sense of its traditional meaning; it is a status title (similar to Vice President in other American banks).  Last year there were 153 people promoted to that status in the bank globally.  So yes, a senior indiviudal and doubtless a well paid one,  but not necessarily an absolutely loaded one!

Thanks a great clarificatrion Dave. Personally I'd not thought about him being loaded I just thought he'd have the connections/knowledge to get access to the funding but some may have assumed so good to point out.

Not sure if its the direction they are heading in but it would be a real positive if whoever is heading this has the funds to do everything without assistance but is looking to include "regular" fans by inviting them to donate (or something like a share scheme similar to what other clubs have done i.e. Eibar in La Liga) so we all feel an involvement in moving forward.

I've a gut feeling you could raise a significant amount more this way from us "regular" fans rather than it being "regular" fans alone being asked to chip in to a takeover fund.

Fingers crossed as it all sounds positive.

We might even be able to afford a scoreboard...

dannyboy - none of us know the facts around this and it's quite rightly subject of an NDA. It is highly probable though that it will involve "borrowing" in some way. There are specialist finance houses/banks that operate in the football sector - often with 2 or 3 lenders involved in the lending, thereby spreading the risk (I used to work for one that financed new stands utilising, for example, fixed and floating charges, security over match day revenues, commercial income, player transfer values etc.).

I would be amazed if this transpires to be a fan/s with the ready cash to achieve the purchase. I say that because, surely if that was the case, they would have moved in when Mr Corney was selling up - thus helping to prevent the position we now find ourselves in. It could always be an anonymous and recent winner of Euromillions of course, who just happens to be a Latics' fan!

It could be that the purchase of freehold land etc. is also linked to a 3rd party retail/leisure development opportunity, thus making the financials much more viable.

Whatever the case, will be excellent news when it comes off.
