didn't Johnson say he wouldn't be signing as he was four stone overweight? if he got himself bank in shape then I certainly wouldn't oppose to giving him a contract (providing his wage demands aren't ridiculous), we could certainly do a lot worse.

There must be some reason why a player with his history and still 28 hasn't got a club.

this doesn't sound like he intends playing at our level

“He is free and available and asked if he wanted to come in for a bit of training. He is thinking about it,” Johnson revealed. “We will see, but I wouldn't hang hopes on it.” Personally would tell him to get stuffed and not waste time on him if he is thinking.

Poleon a bargain ?? and in 12 months time 4 months off securing a move away on the cheap. IF potential to be a Assolomwhatshisname. 3 year min deal surely. Will Poleon be here in 17 months time ???? Hope he is but ???

Tidser arrived at SportsDirect.com Park on a six-month loan deal. according to Chron. 7 paras later...Loan signing Tidser adds to Johnson’s midfield options until January. Sept 1 Oct 2 Nov 3 Dec 4 ..... Jan poor no wonder we get confused with deals.

Why? A striker proven above our level, you'd turn away because he isnt sure about joining a :censored:/lower half League 1 club? As with Llera & Kenny, if these guys are available the club should do everything possible to snap them up.

Because hes a fat, out of work footballer who cant be the World beater he thinks as not snapped up elsewhere ..... who has been touting himself in press and should snap latics hand off if wants to play. Thinking about it should not be in public domain a quick word with Big George should be enough to say yes or no thanks.

Or maybe because he's from Cambridge and most recently lived in Ipswich then it's not as black and white as just jumping on a bus to Oldham... I mean you love the club, I love the club, but to him it's about paying his bills, supporting his family and doing what's right for them.

Does he want to spend 3 months at Latics for nothing and disrupt his family? Maybe. Maybe not.

Footballers have always trained with clubs that don't hold their registration, a while back Beckham trained with Arsenal as it was convenient for him. It is also convenient for the club as in Beckham's case it would have improved their set piece defending having such as deadball specialist training with them.

In our case I can remember other players training with Latics to keep fitness up, I'm sure there have been times when we would have liked to have signed the player even though it would have never be on the cards but I don't see what harm it does having other players training with us?

There are also times when managers or coaches are interviewed and they say "I spent time with team X and learnt a few things." I'm sure that the amount of players and coaches appearing on other team's training grounds would be quite a high figure.

Exactly. Plus by having him train with us and trying to develop a good bond with other players and manager he might over time be tempted to drop down a division and play for us. Something he'd probably just say no to if asked outright before allowing him to step onto our hallowed training pitch.

Harry Kewell trained with us didnt he? Mate of Warren Feeney's from their Leeds days, and we were local to his wife's family home.

We were never in with a shout of him signing, but having someone like around, albeit for short periods of time, can only be a good thing surely?

Ebanks Blake is an interesting one. If he's that overweight; then no club is touching him until he shifts it. He could shift it quicker by training with us. If he's here training, he could well settle in and like it; so - once fit, the club in the driving seat to sign him could well be us?

The flip is that he gets fit whilst here, and as a result, suddenly other clubs better off than us become interested.

Takes your chances though eh? Its worth the try surely; we wont be earning a wage whilst doing it; nor will he be stopping the likes of Bove & Turner from developing; he'd possibly be helping them by being around them and passing on his knowledge...

been at Leigh Sports Village today and stumbled upon Eng v Dutch U18's ........Eng won 4-1 with a certain Geordie called Armstrong scoring twice.

I know he is young and probably not the answer to our targetman requirement but he is going to be the next big thing....he looked 5 yrds ahead of every other player on the pitch today

Mike Ashley could loan him to us all season rather than a load of t-shirts due to sale of home shirts being delayed
