And with that, the season is over. This episode was recoded before the triumph / disaster that was Loud, Live and Beefy and Bromley at home in the last game. Andy, Dave and Matt look through the squad as it stands and decide who they think should stay or go...but with a twist.

  • BPAS changed the title to BPAS PODCAST: 1st May ‘23, S3E36: The Squad Pod

I don't know why there's deliberation about keeping our top scorer...

..or Green.  Creative, fast and scores goals.

Keeping Hope should be less of a priority.

Lose Shelton, Couto and (sorry to day it - because he's our best midfielder, if he plays) Gardner.

Bare minimum, we need a first-choice right back and midfielder.

Wild from Dave saying to get rid of Hogan. He’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet next season. Also think it’s naive to suggest DU won’t go with 2 holding. If we’re playing 2 strikers he’ll almost certainly player 2 defensive minded midfielders.

Right back and another central midfielder needed minimum.

Sheron and Shelton are to similar.

Gardner is made of biscuits.

Rooney isn’t a midfielder.

I’d be looking to bring two midfielders in at least- but I said on the retained thread. It looks like he’s largely going with what he’s got.

He’s a number 10.

Playing just off the striker.

Or you could play him in front three.

Uh?  Since when has a No.10 (Lordy I gate this no. 8/6/10 whatever - harking back to the old days!) not been a midfielder?

Look at his career stats and the amount of goals he’s scored- he hasn’t done that as a typical midfielder as in a Sheron/Shelton mould. Or a box to box type. He’s played his entire career just off the striker or in advanced midfield position.

Call it what you want. But he isn’t a midfielder he’s a forward/attacker.

Can we call him an advanced midfielder then? 😜

He’s a Deli Ali type.

Not a midfielder and not a striker.

He plays between the lines of the above two positions.

I'm in danger of falling into @BP1960 territory.  It used t be a simple game... :)

However we do it we need to assemble a squad capable of getting 90+ points next season to give us a chance of winning the league

There was a time when the number on a players shirt indicated the position they played. Not sure about Roger Palmer though as he was a mystery to fans, colleagues and the opposition. 🙂
