Saturday's games at the foot of the table

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately staying up is a an achievement to many Oldham fans now, a chairman with a total lack of ambition has somehow over the time of his tenure managed to brainwash the remaining fans to be happy with 20th in League 1 and a last 8 appearance in the JPT that no other club gives a :censored: about.

In the context of the season, as it has panned out, it is an achievement (or will be, if we do it). But I'm certainly not brainwashed.

The ones who sing 'We are staying up' and the like are brainwashed, it makes me cringe to hear it sang, especially against teams like Burton and Rochdale, what an achievement.

We looked dead and buried when Sheridan came in. If we stay up, after being in that position, that should be celebrated. The bigger questions can be raised once that's out of the way.

There were far too many games (22 to be precise) left for folk to claim we were dead and buried. It looked bleak, but no team is dead and buried half a season in. That was mainly hysteria.

Being 7pts adrift and having Dunn as manager, we were dead and buried if not for a change in managerial personnel.

There was no spark anywhere on the pitch. No fighter where confidence could flow from. No sign that Dunn could instill that.

Right...so you've both clearly missed the bit in StevieJ's post "when Sheridan came in" that I was replying to...

5 points off with a game in hand...that's a real concern but not dead and buried.

It's all speculation but I believe we would be way adrift by now if we'd kept Dunn with tiny miserable crowds and a raft of :censored: expensive signings.

At no point during this season did I ever think we would go down. However, with hindsight, we probably were going under dunn.

^^^^^^^^ This!!!

Nobody is saying we wouldn't have carried on struggling under Dunn. But with 22 games left....anything could....and has happened. We fight on! Great win last night. Proper full team performance.

Rational analysis is frowned upon here, we prefer hysteria and scapegoats.
