Nohairdontcare
I can confirm - 100 per cent - that Shay Given has been in talks with Latics regarding a potential move to us. We're not the only club he's talking to, and he hasn't made a decision yet - but there has been contact between club and player.
Flemboy
Hope he does sign. Then with a decent midfielder we should be a side capable of finishing top half
BP1960
And I'd expect some improvement in Given from the coaching of Carlo Nash.

HarryBosch
I'm not sure about this. I think I'd rather have Stryjek. That said, if he's still got it it'd be a great signing. When was the last time he played?
HarryBosch
8 games for Stoke since 2015...
leeslover
He's played 8 more games in the Premiership in the last couple of years than whoever is next in line I'll bet. Possibly 8 more than at any level, and 600 more in the 20 years before that at a decent standard. Unless he's massively out of shape I can't imagine he'd be a bad bet. MAC0AFC
Anyone see David James in that recent tournament aired on Sky? Many of the ex pros were saying he's still good enough to play... and he did look class. So what's to say Given hasn't still got it in him! oafc_lover
Shay comes into work quite regularly over near Wilmslow and I can confirm he is definitely still in shape. Top bloke too.
Nohairdontcare
There's no doubt in my mind - he'd be great for us for a season or two. I fear there are too many other clubs in for him though. In the Championship and abroad. I'd hope we try to tempt him with a coaching offer. AlanGrovesFanClub
It would be nice to have more than 1 goalkeeper, whoever they are. May possibly come in useful at some point...

HarryBosch
He's on Goals on Sunday as I type. Hasn't announced he's signing, yet...
Stainrod
Was interviewed on 5 live yesterday, says his agent is actively trying to find him a club, certainly keen to play somewhere and content to drop down the leagues, suspect he's holding out for a championship club ideally but unlikely to get a first choice spot I would guess. Being number one at a club would be best at his age surely, if he wants to stay in the game he wants to play, he's not staying in it for the money, sign for Latics? you just never know!! (he didn't mention any club in his interview)

Clifford
On talksport in the morning today, done with them and on his way back up north today. Expecting him to sign somewhere in the next day or so.

Hands on
Does this mean we are waiting for his decision as we did with Ripley? When we are screwed again I hope there is a plan B. I'm not saying we would have won at Walsall but that first goal.
OL9erlatic
Depressing to think that as a 41 year old 'happy to be 3rd choice keeper in the Premiership' will still be on 3/4 times more than we could ever offer
oafc1955
Going off that he's clearly in no hurry, I'd walk away. We want someone in now, another will he won't he fiasco is not what we need!
al_bro
He also says that he is willing to wait for someone getting injured. If nothing happens he is also wiling to hang up his boots. He's in no hurry, but we are and can't afford to wait for him. We have to move on.
