Ex players and that

Recommended Posts

Sad to report the death of former keeper Eamonn Darcy aged 89. I remember watching him in my childhood 1954-56. He was signed for a fee of £150 and went from Latics to Shamrock Rovers and saved a penalty for the League of Ireland in a victory against the English League XI in 1963. He also managed the Republic of Ireland women's team in the 1980s. He made nine appearances in European club competitions, including home and away against Man U in the days when the European Cup was only for the champions of respective countries.  RIP Eamonn.

How many discarded Latics players have gone on to progress after leaving BP!! 😳

It would be interesting to see if someone could put a team of our ex miss fits together.

One of my recommendations to Banide, his ability was never in question, but was released after an off the field incident.

Remember when we used to think that Pidge was a below average CB for League 2 level? Stevenage look like real promotion challengers this season. Proper dodgy him missing our last 4 games last season and then joining them lot.

Some of us, thought that he was a decent league 2 footballer.

He was sent off late in the game against Northampton and missed the next three only returning for the final game against Crawley in a 3-3 draw.

We’ll never know, unless he spills all in his biography, whether there was anything sinister about the sending off 🤔

l still do. even tho l did every close season and then he went on to be our most consistent player. we might have stayed up with him.

@TheBigDog I don't want to believe he invited the booking, but his behaviour and reaction at the time was out of character.

Typically a cool head, good servant up to that point, player of the season award was moot but he would have won up to that incident.
