He started as well as the rest of them those first 15 minutes. Some nice link up play, started the move for the goal and was then as poor as the rest of them were for the rest of the match.

Why single him out?

Couple of times he got the ball on Saturday and every other player was completely hiding away. Vera then went on to lose the ball. I sat there and said to a mate, "they'll love that...that'll be his fault for the rest not giving a fuck" Worst player on the pitch bar 1 decent ball in the 90th minute was Maouche. Now he was fucking embarrassing at times! His cock up that led to Hamer having to hack their lad down was North West Counties stuff. Not saying Vera is decent but he's definitely a boo-boy. Ngoo was one of the worst players to wear the shirt but somehow gained Cult status. I guess it comes down to which Chairman is in charge whether its Cult or Cu*t status a player gets 🙄

It seems to me that Maouche is a boo-boy for some too 🤔

Had a good game on Saturday then, did he?

No better or worse than most on Saturday.

The annoying thing is he's the potential to be a good midfielder at this level but can't be arsed most of the time, which is definitely not a good characteristic for your captain.

A really strange choice !

The performance on Saturday was utterly dreadful. Great start with the Missilou header. He is one of few who is worth a bean within our newly assembled squad.

Far, far too many of these players are not even good enough for the league below let alone for League Two. If you go through them, it’s hard to find many positives.

Woods – Did reasonably well. Made 2 good one on one saves and a couple more saves to boot. Their finishing was terrible. Perhaps as well! Kept the score down. 6/10

Hamer – Stuck at it, like you would expect. Probably sick of playing alongside incompetent teammates. Took a booking after was sold down the river by one of them. 5/10

Sefil – Don’t get me started on this bloke. Possibly the worst centre back I have seen in league football. No joke. Struggles with the ball at his feet. Ball over the top catches him out time and again. Crap in the air considering his size. Positional sense dreadful. Blamed Hamer for Porter winning a header against him. Woeful! 3/10

Stott – Sadly think he is playing a division too high. That said, any bloke would struggle with his CB partner. Very edgy and poor game. 5/10

Mills – Clearly our best player. Although that doesn’t say too much, looked hungry, wanted everything. Couple of decent runs but had to try to do it all on his own. Why he was taken off (unless injured) is shambolic. 7/10

Missilou – All heart. Gives everything. Sadly had to do the job of two in the midfield and was close to being sent off in the process. Great header for the goal. Nowhere near the worst. 6/10

Maouche – Embarrassment! Struts around the pitch as if he owns the place. Sadly, his mate does! Can be a decent footballer but ego driven and “nobody is better than me” attitude when everybody else clearly is creates an issue. Takes all set pieces, most of which are crap and offers very little in a midfield two. How this guy is captain is beyond me. Once again, we all know why he is. 3/10

Branger – Dreadful. Offered nothing. All one footed and struggled to do anything right. Poor. 4/10

Vera – Although not as bad as usual, dreadfully poor. A couple of really laughable moments. His header towards the corner flag, his touch that ended up about 20 yards away from him and his achievement of managing to get smaller when he jumps. Sadly, the guy is a dreadful footballer and once again, how he managed to get another year once again questions the ownership of the club. Doesn’t say much but he wasn’t the worst on the pitch. That said, if we persist with him, I can’t see us scoring many. 4/10

Wilson – Confidence looks shot at. Saw him play for Macclesfield a few times last year and always buzzing about. That movement seemed to be lacking and was clearly frustrated with the 10 players behind him. Looked a lot happier when Azankpo came on, sharing the workload. Sadly, not great but with persist with him given the other options available to us. 5/10

Subs:

Nepo – Poor game by his standards. Delivery wasn’t great but once more stuck out on the right. Needs to be on the left. 5/10

Eagles – Not on for long but didn’t look particularly interested. Strange signing this given the number of clubs he has had in recent years. Set-pieces the other night were on point when he took them. Sadly, Maouche dictates that he takes pretty much everything which usually ends dreadfully poor. 5/10

Azankpo – Like the lads enthusiasm. At least he looks like he wants to be there. Willing to make runs in behind and got in a couple of times. Perhaps should have scored but again would persist with him. Not bad. 6/10

Club is in a mess. We are in trouble.

I thought MM gash and notably worse than the rest of the team (even Branger.) And that's from someone who has rarely rated or slated him in the past. He's one I want to see show us what he really could offer...consistently...but the wait is wearing thin. He deserves more criticism than Vera for his display on Saturday.

The issue with Vera is he symbolises the massive issues at the club. He was shite last season, unfit and uninterested. We then go and give him another season. He has not earned that but the Lemons signed him anyway.

I would assume given his past clubs he is better than some of the pub players we have signed but the owners have set him up to fail. He represents their shite judgement and interference.

I second that. Sefil and Vera are inevitably going to take the flak that the chiefs deserve. The fact they are now going to be 2 regular first team starters after not being close enough to making the squad last year shows how inept our signings and squad building is. They shouldn't be near this squad, and our "key" players like Branger and Maoche should be mere squad fillers for any team in this league looking to go up. Its shocking that the management doesn't see this, for whatever reason they have (ahem laundry) and in-fact offered these players extended deals on probably a fair whack of dough.

Tell you why people are getting at Vera - its not just his ability (or lack of it), its his total level of fitness that is so  woefully short of professional league standard.

I actually agree he wasn't too bad first 10 minutes, lost the ball with a poor touch but then won it back and contributed to assisting in the move that led to Missilou's goal.  After that his contribution waned dramatically to which he was seen huffing and puffing when coming back to defend a corner after around 15 minutes. He never got anywhere near anything much again apart from a terrible touch when receiving the ball at about knee level (he went with his foot and it skewed off) and that abysmal header that nearly hit the corner flag. I assume he had to come off at half time because he was so unfit.

I gave him a bit of slack last season as he had not had the benefit of any pre-season, this season he should have been training so should be up-to-speed fitness wise. On the rare occasions I saw him last season, he was poor to say the least - a career that started with a great 12 seconds till his penalty at Macc and has been ropey at best ever since.

I hear Urko is a nice man, good fun and good around the club. I take no pleasure in thinking anyone isn't up to it but I am not sure he is. In truth if he was at least match fit, he would give himself a chance.

Maouche is totally the opposite, I don't think fitness is the issue, he also does have lots of ability and threaded a great ball through in injury time which may have led to a totally undeserved equaliser. That said his contribution as captain and centre midfielder was very poor on Saturday, he never seemed to be there and Paul Green was allowed to totally dominate. Maouche a leader......he certainly isn't on this display. This player should be able to produce substantially more than what he does and if the club are to do anything but struggle, Maouche has to deliver on a regular basis.

This is not to piss on Shucky's parade and, believe me, I'm delighted Vera has got off the mark.

But, we scored the winner some 12 minutes after he was subbed, so he had no part in that. I've seen nothing that tells me he's even a half decent footballer but maybe, just maybe, that goal will give him a confidence boost and we might see the Vera that has been kept hidden.

I want all Latics players to come good, but I will tell it as I see it. However, I'll hold my hands up when someone I've only seen as rubbish shows me that he isn't.

It's up to Vera now, but he needs to show he's a 90+ minute footballer and not someone who is going to get dragged off within an hour, or just used off the bench.

Fair play matey, you said it way before it came to fruition, enjoy this moment!

Always was and am being serious, the guy is immobile and looks lazy, he's played Champions League football recently though, he ain't a fucking mug.

Too many wrote him off on here.

I had the pleasure of the conversation with him in the casino that night and he wants to succeed here. He needs a young mobile strike partner and time.

The guy is down to earth and genuine as they come.

People on here take the piss out of my story regarding the casino, but it was true, he guys wadded to an extent and is playing here as a means to a ways, he genuinely feels lucky and privaldged to be playing in England.

Given the chance this season, he'll bag 15 easily for us.

Thats how Banide has used all our strikers so far.

Yet again, why single him out?

Azankpo seems to have had more time on the pitch than any of them and still hasn’t scored yet but in true Latics  style most really like him because he runs around a lot.
