Relegation

Recommended Posts

We simply have to kick on from that result yesterday, if we can win our next two home games, Hartlepool & Barrow, it would put us comfortably mid table and everyone could calm down a little. However, lose them both and we could have a real battle on our hands.

If we dropped into the National League, under the same ownership, I think mere survival would be a mammoth task!

On the other hand if we were rid of the 🤡🤡’s and under new ownership, what level of attendance would we command and do we think we could bounce back quickly?

Looking at the teams currently in there it would not be a given.

The following are attendances in the National League for their last home games, without factoring in Wrexham who have yet to play a home fixture!

Grimsby        5034

Chesterfield 5356

Notts Co       6934

Woking         3078

Stockport     5265

Home attendances arent dropping any further. Baring a boycott, they have hovered around 3,500 home fans in attendance for several years now.

Again, as long as we aren’t boycotting we’d be at that level in tier 5 (or 6 or 7 for that matter). Numbers would go up in tier 5 under stable owners and with a promotion push.

Some much larger crowds in the National league yesterday.

Watching my second National League game. Wrexham have sold over 5k season tickets. Notts County are holding their own. We'd be looking at mid-table at best.

Relegation would be a disaster.

Pray for the shit teams to start showing themselves...

We would go above 5,000 every week easily under the right ownership, potentially 6-7,000.

In non league??

where do you get from?

We haven’t had that since flirting with the playoffs in 2006-09 and 9,767 against Forest was our nadir

we had less under Ritchie in a division above where we are now

many of those going then are dead

It's a fallacy that's been following us around for years. Some fans thinks its a reset. Relegation is and always has been a disaster.

Not a hope in hell. The fan base has been decimated

Season tickets sales went up when we last got relegated. . . and that was with worry about the owners. Then the hope quickly died. Again.

Fans want to watch winning football, we haven’t one successful season in 30 years, so have never been able to gauge our bounce back.

If we got relegated, and new owners got us going- there is no question we would see 5/6k again.

Exactly, look at Stockport, 5000+ and they were in the Conference North 3 years ago. But they got the right owner and started winning games. If we get rid of these clowns and things turn around on the pitch the lapsed fans will return.

And our attendance for that first game was 4,764 (so about 4,100 home fans)

If you think we would get more than that for a non league clash with Dover I’ll have some of what your smoking

Fans 'lapse' constantly. Our problem will be that over a period that goes back way longer than the Lemsagams they haven't been replaced.

This is a fallacy as well. Season Tickets sales went up because  they reduced the prices if bought before mid April (not sure of the date) and at the time it looked like we were staying up and it was a really good offer. It was the most we'd sold in a good few seasons, but then we couldn't muster a win from our final nine matches when just one would have done. so we had our best season ticket sales in years to start life in the fourth division with.

I didn’t say anything about an isolated game, I said -

If we had new owners

and

If they got us going- (ie winning a lot more than we lose)

If we got relegated and struggled crowds would dwindle again.

Never underestimate the power of consistent winning football.

Salford had 12 fans 10 years ago- now they’ve got 3000. Did they suddenly find people who back in love with Salford- (if you think that, I’ll have some of what your smoking) or do people want to watch watch winning football?

You say it’s a fallacy, but then go onto say that’s exactly what happened. . ?

We run offers every single season. People bought because they thought we were going to have a season of challenging and surviving.

Turns out - we were shit. Again.

So people don’t gone back. Again.

My point was that people bought season tickets because they thought they'd be watching third division football at a good price. The sales didn't go up because we were relegated, most had been sold when we were still in league one and really should have stayed there.

Once the season started and we realised how shit the division is we thought we should go straight back up and we could actually have some fun for one season in the bottom tier. Once it became obvious that Abbdallah couldn't run a batch never mind a football club, people started staying away.

The clubs now in the National League (Notts County, Chesterfield, Stockport etc) all went down with better crowds than we get now.our crowds have been in decline for years and many stopped going because they'd had enough of Third Division football, so I can't see them rushing back if we end up in non league.

We' don't know, and hopefully we don't get to find out. We just need to get the clowns out and hope for the best that someone can come in and turn us round.

Yet they only managed 1400 home supporters on Saturday !
