Transfer Rumours 24/25

Maybe you won't always see what goes at Championship level but as we've just played an entire season with it there's a player at Blackburn called Smodzics who is rather prolific.     In fact he's amazing, best striker there since Alan Shearer, he really is phenomenal.

Rovers very nearly got relegated at the weekend, managed to stay up, but if they had gone down I strongly believe Smodzics would have been sold.      As Oldham is quite near from Blackburn it's something of a romantic ideology but he could have dropped down a league or two and gave a season or two for you there.

He'll be leaving Rovers for a bigger club, no doubts about that, might even end up in the Premier league

At no stage would he of ended up at Oldham

If MM wants "specialists" in certain areas then I don't think King fits the RB bill.

Pete Wild signed him as a winger for Halifax and converted him to RWB. Good going forward but not as good defensively.  Could see him doing OK with a proper RB behind him or if MM'S plan is to go gung-ho and simply outscore the opposition - which I  somehow doubt.

Not every player will be a specialist. Need players like King to fill in the gaps.

In Mickey ‘I know what good looks like’ Mellon we trust.

I hope that the players he does bring in live up to his mantra.

I also hope that he accepts that not all the players he wants will want to come to BP.

But most importantly, I hope that he gets on with coaching and motivating the players at his disposal to be a successful team.

No excuses next season please 🥺

So which gap would King fill?

And what do you regard as specialist roles?

Seems like 'Specialist' is the new term for 'Good at football'.

🤣

Well yeah.

When MM mentioned specialists I got the impression he was on about a genuine RB and DM instead of shoehorning CB's in there. Also, ball-playing CM rather than merely a runner. Oh, and genuine wingers- or wide midfielders to use the new term!

Suppose it's all about how he wants to set up, who is available and how much deadwood he can shift. Should be a fun summer!

There not being a reduced budget is not the same as being able to spend big as a good chunk of it is taken up by players he doesn't want to be here.

While I’m inclined to agree Darren does say players won’t have to leave in order for us to bring people in.

We should be able to shift a few as well, there will be a few teams out there who will take a punt on some of our lot I’m sure.

Obviously we will sign players. Don’t understand why people think we wouldn’t.

Yep agree. I'm confident we will have the budget to sign 5 quality players.

Agreed. And this is where the club are backing MM to wheel and deal to create space to improve the squad

He will and better players will be brought in. I'm pragmatic enough to expect we still won't quite be the barnstorming HMS Piss The League model quite yet but I'm expecting a much stronger push at the top and a team that doesn't roll over as at home as soon as young, energetic opposition press us through the middle. Hopefuly it's us that will be doing more of that.

Rochdale's new owners have promised to get them promoted within 3 years. They'll no doubt be chucking a bit of money about over the next couple of seasons...

Wonder if we can shift any of our dead wood on to them

I watched Oldham Rugby last week, albeit the opposition was poor, but the sheer pace and vibrancy of the team was a joy to watch.

Latics played turgid football also against poor opponents so we know what needs changing  don't we MM?

Eh ? We need to pick up the ball and run with it ? How is this relatable ? Give the guy a chance with his own players (not a few rushed signings)

Kind of glad they are in a weird way I want us both to be challenging at the top of the National league with both games being sell outs. I mean can you imagine a fixture in late April with us both sat 1st and 2nd the atmosphere would be electric.

As long as we’re well clear in first place I’m okay with that 😉

It's completely different. Roughyeds in their division is the equivalent of sticking Burnley in the National League. They're streets ahead of them all and they've recruited players ready to step up next season. Promotion is as good as in the bag already for them...

Correct, I know people who've bet they'll be undefeated in the league !!

Good luck to them they ( like us ) deserve some.

Before the takeover they had a competitive team for the division, squeaked into the playoffs end of last year and recruited very strongly over the off season. You could argue we started at a slightly worse position but not too dissimilar.

The mistake that we made was recruiting the wrong manager, they didn't. The success has spring boarded from that.
