Jack Byrne ❤️

Oldham Athletic manager Frankie Bunn doesn't expect Jack Byrne to leave the club before the loan window shuts - potentially paving the way for him to make a return to the side.

Byrne hasn't featured for Latics since the first game of pre-season, and last week the club confirmed it was because the midfielder has breached some discipline rules.

The 22-year-old has been training with the youth team, and it appeared that Latics would look to move him on before the loan window shuts next week.

It now appears that won't be the case, with Bunn revealing that he doesn't expect any players to depart before the loan window shuts.

When asked about Byrne's future, Bunn told MEN Sport: "There will probably be none going out. We've had no enquires [on Byrne].

"Ideally I'd like a couple in, whether we get that I don't know, but we are searching."

Oldham have made full use of the loan window in recent weeks, bringing in the likes of Sam Surridge, Callum Lang and Daniel Iversen, while Sam Graham also arrived on loan earlier in the summer.

Surridge made a good impact, scoring against Macclesfield Town on Saturday, but a hamstring injury then forced him out of the game with Yeovil on Tuesday.

It was initially hoped that the striker may return in the game against Morecambe this weekend, but Bunn has now admitted he will again be missing.

"Unfortunately it will be another week. It's a bit disappointing because we thought we had him back but then he felt it again prior to the game on Tuesday," he said.

"We have to look after his welfare and try not to rush him back. It was a good performance from him against Macclesfield and we were thinking 'right let's kick on,' but then he pulls up with the hamstring injury.

"He's disappointed too because he wants to play and score goals and that's what he's come here to do. He was missing for around 10 days with the other hamstring injury he suffered, but this time it's a different area with the soreness. It's not as bad as the first one, but we'll be airing on the side of caution."

I like him as a footballer and think he would be the difference in a lot of games in this league

I can't see Miller Clarke COG Gardener and Taylor taking too much shit of him. He probably the size of Miller's toe

Fane's bigger than him too...

For sure but we are doing nothing to dampen that.

Hard to hide.

One year loan cancelled at Rovers after making only 4 appearances in a very poor Blackburn side.  Signs for Wigan on 3 year deal only makes 2 appearances and leaves within a year.  Signs 2 yr deal at Oldham and then falls out with Latics too.   All of this is in a 24 month spell.  Clubs will be well aware of what has gone on, its a small world.

Arguably we have been more patient that other clubs... but he would be a high risk signing for anyone now.

To be honest I'm more worried about Surridge being out for another week, he looks the only player capable of doing anything in the final third, if we don't reinforce before the window shuts it would be a major disappointment.

Sounds like it depends on Byrne departing.

Which might be good for his health as he'd get neckache playing in this team...

Get ready to be disappointed. We have six strikers plus Baxter. Surely no chance of more.

Bet we could of brought Akinde in for the money we're spunking on the bag of frogs we currently have for striking options.

It's not just the strikers though our wide men particularly away from home are none existent, there's no quality at all in our forward play nobody at all who can find a pass or beat a couple of men, Baxters still way off the pace and we seem to be happy to wait for him to get up to pace at his own speed.

Absolutely but your best chance of attracting interest in him is to have him playing and having an impact.

Current situation is the worst of all worlds.

Or, we could hope he finally learns a lesson and he stays to help us actually achieve something.  For his sake, he needs to.

He's not going to play for us again, it has gone too long.

It can only end with a payoff and you'd have to imagine that would impact on the already slashed budget.

Just now, Clifford said:

He can't play for any side in England or Scotland should he be freed now so pointless for both parties. If we were going to agree a payoff it should have been before the deadline.

My feeling is he will find a club abroad.

Free agents still ok to deadline aren't they? I know Prem League is closed to everything except emergency keepers.
