Londonboy
Surely a mix of trying to play some form of decent passing football and being more direct on occasion is best?...otherwise as many have said we are just too predictable. Lets face it we are a crap L2 side, with another new manager with new ideas. I guess the best example is someone like Leicester? Direct when they need to be, but can also play it around a bit. We have some pace in our team up front...nothing wrong with a few decent balls over the top if someone has the ability to play the right pass....accepted we don' really have a Vardy to finish things off!! Leicester play accurate long balls to a striker who rarely misses. We play long hopeful hoofs, after a period of sideways and backward passing, to a striker who rarely scores. If we get the ball in the opposition penalty area something might happen. Nothing is going to happen 50 yards away from goal. Tippy tappy football is sooooo boring at times, especially when there is very little end product. A big centre forward, a target man to aim for who can hold the ball up or provide ‘flick ons’ for the likes of Azankpo, Wilson or Branger to run on to. We need to be able to offer a variation, even if only as a substitute, because at the moment we are very one dimensional. Sadly much easier said than done with Latics. Would you suggest we just keep hoofing it until it eventually lands in their box? Also they don't play for our entertainment. It's to tire out the opposition, find a gap. In theory, at least. It doesn’t work though. We don’t score enough goals. We do all the pointless passing in our own half. Doesn’t hurt the opposition at all. Most of the opposing centre halves must come off the pitch thinking that they’ve had a pretty comfortable afternoon. We’ve got to work their defences much more than we do. Even the style of football that we do play doesn’t suit our forward line. How many goals this season have been scored by a striker? Get a target man up there. Give the likes of Azankpo and Wilson something to feed off and to run on to.

Banide had started to get some decent passing and movement then that obviously went. Faster more mobile forwards is the way to go with a midfield that can find their runs. We need to toughen up. Mug teams 1-0, like Carlisle did to us on Saturday and countless other teams have done to us over the last quarter of a century. Pretty football was ineffective in the division above and even more so at this level. Build a spine of a decent 'keeper, an old head at centre-back, a scrapping midfielder and a massive lump up front. We've got the centre back (Wheater) and midfielder (Missilou), but are badly lacking the other two...

GlossopLatic
Whats this obsession with the "lump" upfront he doesn't have to be big just good enough. Shall we just sign a prop forward from the roughyeds.

We must be one of the easiest teams in the league to set up against because we play one way only and can’t change.

We've got a "big lump" who wears number 9 and we have multiple wingers (some of them a quite capable) but if we played said "lump" Urko Vera and 2 wingers feeding him crosses we would still be shit! latics22
We had Holloway who was a great player, strong in the air, great at linking play The majority on here thought he was shit and didnt want a big lump up field. Simple fact is, this league is shit and with a bit of investment,we could walk this league. Reduce the squad, get rid of the show pony and add few clever signings. Sounds simple....
