I agree with you, the way he occupies centre halves is really good. Because it isn't Paul Warne style pressing though it goes unnoticed a lot of the time.

Correct. It frees up space for others like Reid to exploit. It's very deft.

He had excellent service at curzon missed 5 yes 5 potential chances in 45 minutes. Some of them were ridiculously easy, this lad has to step up to the plate before the season begins or we are in trouble

Two, maybe three !..........and how are we in "trouble" with three adequate replacements ?

You're obviously trying to live up to your handle, calm down. 🤪 😉

Gardeners problem is his ability to keep fit,Nuttall problem is he will never be a prolific goal scorer,he will never provide multiple assists, and we have multiple penalty takers in the squad now, surplus to requirements!!!

How many goals per season would you consider prolific?

These three posts are as ridiculous as any other posts you have made. Ridiculous.

Only 8 players in the entire division scored more than him last season...

He wasn't even great when he was last with us. Baffles me too

People are discussing the merits of Nuttall starting matches in competition with Reid, Fondop and Willoughby based on what they have seen during the pre-season games so far.

Isn’t that what this forum is for, a genuinely honest debate?

So, a debate about the front four is simmering away nicely, what on earth has that has got to do in any direct way with Dan Gardner?

At long last, during close season, Dan has had the expert input from the Daddy of all physios, Mick Rathbone, who has clearly decided that he needs time to give him the opportunity to come back fully fit, rather than be that clearly unfit bit part player we all saw struggling (and criticised) through last season.
Signings have bought Dan that time, and whilst he’s under contract, he deserves the opportunity to prove himself again when hopefully he’s fully fit.

No, you have to pick a side and then be either baffled, or claim the other side is deluded for not thinking like you.

It wouldn't do for us all to be the same and that's what keeps the forum alive

There's a good mix on here, imagine life without it

Just watch him closely in matches and you'll get what I mean.

It's up to Nuttall to prove he will fight for a place, too often his heart doesn't appear to be in it from my observations.

Gardner's other problem is that he's clearly a very naturally talented footballer but he's never seemed to fit any system he's found himself in with us.

You're never sure quite what he is or what he's supposed to be.

But then he's seemingly done quite well in League One with Wigan......

Also, his middle name is Keith.

That can't help.

Yes he is a good footballer but he is entirely one paced. He has to move at 100mph, if he just slowed down a little and thought about it a bit more he could be so much better.

He gives the ball away a hell of a lot and it’s usually in the wrong areas.

He’s at the wrong end of his career now and he ain’t going to change.

A decent impact player who when we’re struggling can up the tempo but for me he’s a sub at best!

Probably is going to be a squad player for us but he could link up well with the likes of Lundstrum, he's a good footballer who probably doesn't fit the Unsworth mould but he does have the ability to make things happen, he's played in some awful midfields for us in recent times and had to almost do the job of two players which never helps, first game of last season he lined up in midfield with Cooper, Stobbs and Tollitt so he was pissing in the wind before he even started there. He'll get his chance like most of them but it wouldn't surprise me if became a regular face in matchday squads. Agree with others about simplifying his game, he does turn over the ball at an alarming rate for a player of his ability but with better footballers around him he may step up.

That was my main gripe with him.

Especially as he used to drop so deep to pick the ball up from the defenders every single time. It got the the point where it felt like we weren't allowed to attack unless he'd touched the ball first.

Wouldn't necessarily be against him as a squad player but he certainly isn't the creative midfielder some seem to think he is.

That Cruyff turn he always tries. Shudder
