MATCH: Chesterfield (H) 16/03/24

Recommended Posts

Said on the earlier thread chesterfield are nothing special and are dodgy at the back.

we dominated the game and needed to take one of the chances after half time. Disappointed we did not see out the game. Error for the first and the second a dubious penalty.

However that performance sets the standard for the remainder of the season.

next week is must win no excuse

One of mellons signings started today. A player who has underwhelmed so far. He played well today. 4 players started from before frank even bought the club.

they my friend are facts.

this notion that there is unsworths players and then mellons players, and the latter are making a difference, simply isn’t supported by facts.

mellon needs to be given the chance to create his team. But generally speaking, what he has recruited to date isn’t making a material difference to the quality of our team.

He needs a first touch as well. Aside from those two small deficiencies, yes he’s great

Shocked to see people buzzing with Sheron. Gave the ball away every time he got it. Him and Hogan the weak links today.

Miserable

Seeing as though we’re speaking facts.

Stones scored 3 in 4.

Garner has chipped in with goals straight away.

Conlon and Dallas has their best game for us today.

Sav and Walker haven’t featured much.

So of his 6 signings.

Two have been very good.

Two have been a slow burn, but are now having an impact.

Two haven’t worked out.

So when you say- generally speaking what he has recruited hasn’t made a material difference- is in fact, just nonsense.

Great all round performance today. Every single player contributed positively.

The tough thing is playing teams who don't give the space that Chesterfield did.

If we press like we did today and try not to panic on the ball then we will easily pick up enough to be in the playoffs.

We've got enough players who are comfortable on the ball to not resort to lumping it.

Watch Mellons presser. It’s very good.

Talks about Lundy and a few others finding it difficult to play for a club our size and they need support to help them relax and play better.

Talks about his club of 4 strikers. Which means Reid is definitely gone in the summer. (No surprise I suppose)

Bullish about the playoffs and wanting us to play like today all the time.

A bit perplexed why we are so inconsistent with what type of performance we give.

Really good listen when compared to the usual sound bites.

Reluctant to say that games are must win as they haven't been so far this season but with 7 games to go I think we are in that territory now. We sit on 59 points 5 wins and a draw allowing for 1 defeat gets us to 75 points that will be enough to get in the play offs. The 2 local aways at Altrincham on Easter Monday and Halifax (whenever that is) look really crucial as they both the teams around us.

The Run in

Dagenham A - Won't be easy but winnable we've got to go there and get 3 points a scruffy 1-0 will do

Fylde H - Need to put these away get a good win that should ferment us in the play offs.

Altrincham A - the toughest of the final games Mustn't lose a repeat of earlier this season will be enough.

Halifax TBA - another tough one again Mustn't lose but hopefully with a big away following we can get something. They have had the Indian sign over us in our 2 years in the NL with 3 loses to them on what will be a tough pitch I'd take a point if offered.

Rochdale H - Their season will be over but that may allow them to play with freedom a local Derby and a decent crowd could see them stick their chest out still we've got to out them away and get the win.

Oxford City A- Will be relegated by this point but again with nothing to lose they might play with a new found freedom still we will need to out them away and get 3 points.

Wealdstone H - If we pull out the results that I say we can above (4 wins 2 draws) we will probably have top 7 all but sewn up or atleast in our hands They will hopefully be safe by then and be bringing there flip-flops. If its in our hands going into this game and we fuck it up we don't deserve top 7. We could of course be going into this with a chance of 4th or 5th if we are I hope we take advantage. Either way get them put away.

Absolutely no reason why we can't get the results required to get top 7 certainly if we play like we did today against what will be lesser opponents.

Norwood doesn't like going over for the MOM presentation he has history of not being too keen on fulfilling his duties in that respect, he's even refused to answer questions put over to him on one occasion when he's won it, for me it's poor form particularly as it is the match sponsor who decide and they've ploughed a fair few quid in for the privilege. He really should lead by example on these occasions and it's disappointing taking the gloss off the performance, I just find it hard to warm to a player who clearly doesn't want to be here or at least gives that impression at times.

This is the thing, we always seem to play better against team such as these. I saw some decent football today and it’d be great to see more of that. Perhaps there’s a bit too much of us concentrating on the tactics of the opposition. The most important thing is the pressing and closing down in the middle of the field , that’s where games are won or lost.

I find that dissapointing too. I'm sure he's frustrated by not winning today and yes maybe he did have to be somewhereelse but at the end of the day he's employed by the club and given a very good contract and the people in the sponsors lounge will be paying a big contribution to that contract and will have been supporting the club a long time before he came and after he's gone. He's not going to get a Jeremy Paxmam style grilling from anyone they will just want to hear him talk. It's not asking too much.

I went in earlier this season and Will Sutton came in before the game, and Mark Kitching came in after. Both of whom were Gentlemen and were both Professional if they can do that, then it  shouldn't be too much to ask from the star striker.

Best performance of the season so far.  We did to Chesterfield, what everyone else has done to us this season at BP.

We tackled like demons, we denied them any space and when we had the ball we moved it quickly.

Lets hope we can string a few more performances like that together between now and the end of the season .

Well done lads, keep it up.
