I think they were just protesting - they wanted crumbling concrete, queues for disgusting toilet facilities and making fun of the new white elephant 'northern stand'

"Cant be doing with this modern facility stuff better off they spend money on a new wing half"

Ah, the good old days, I remember them well.

What a beautiful sight, think I can just make out the Elk Mill there too.

Yep - stood in the rain of the Rochdale road end admiring a nice new stand was something I enjoyed about 40 years ago - I always wanted to try out the stand but funny enough the first time I sat in it (as opposed too standing on the terrace in front of it) was when we beat Tottenham in the last year of the first division.

Well at first I thought about 77-78 looking at the clobber and the perimeter ad boards, then thought it might be a bit later? Before my time though as my first visit to BP was as an excited six year old in 1982. Great photo of the old place though.

Did we not have fences up about 1980 - and after the Sheff Wed riot we re concreted the Rochdale road end so I'm sure that pic is not in the 80's

The forerunner to the Anglo Scottish Cup was the Texaco Cup.

Most of the advertising boards are for for Texaco, who would not have normally sponsored us.

So I reckon it was a Texaco Cup game.

We only competed in it Season 74-75

We played 3 home games that comp.

V Sheff Utd, Hearts and Southampton.

I can see one red and white hat.

The Sheff Utd game was Aug, the Saints game Nov.

It looks quite misty, wintery.

So my guess is v Southampton 22nd Oct 1974.

Or thereabouts!

The sheff and Hearts games were midweek so Southampton on Saturday looks possible - Semi final of the cup - we lost 3-1 I did go to that game but strewth it was a long time ago :detectivegm0:

Is the concept of supporting the club too difficult for you too?

Is the concept of not talking about things you know jack all about too difficult for you? Where have I actually said I'm boycotting?

You have to be miserable about something don't you - should we have built a tin shed or stay a three sided ground? :smoking:

Great looking stand, great facility for the fans - when its finished - and just makes the whole club look more professional.

I'm proud of the stand :OASISscarf:

Good for you. I trust that you will be attending every home match since you quite obviously love Oldham so much. :exile:
