No trace of a Jim McDonald type accent from Dowie in that interview. I'm guessing that he qualified as a Northern Ireland player on grounds of parentage.

Please tell me that's not the first time.e you've ever heard Iain Dowie speak?

^ It's possible, but I can't actually remember. The post-1994 period doesn't really interest me very much. I've no idea who the vast majority of ex-players mentioned in this thread are.

Dowie's father was born in Belfast.

Matty Warhurst just came on for Man City u18 in their cup final v Leeds and scored a very good goal.  Currently a regular for the England u17's and City's youth top scorer on 21 for the season.  No idea if we got cash for him but the lads doing well for now.

bizarre chap him

Yeah I mean Iain Dowie has had a fairly decent media career across several broadcasters aswell as being manager of several other club's so I'm surprised he'd not heard him speak.

Still Summerdeep is alright, life takes all sorts certainly nothing wrong with those who want to reminince about past times I actually find People with stories prior to my time watching Latics quite interesting.

Not sure where else to post this as Joe Nuttall is not really an ex player, but my Cheltenham Town supporting golf mate, determined to put the mockers on me, told me just as I was about to hit a tee shot that Nuttall has come back to us, apparently having told Cheltenham that he would prefer to stay with us!

I don't know if that's true, but what is true is that I promptly dobbed my drive 50 yards into the right hand rough 😥

Always thought it would be a good hobby to take up if time and money were no object to me.

Like most hobbies golf can cost as little (within reason) or as much as you want it to

I played a lot during lockdown (only sport left, basically) and agree with Dave - I spent about £30 on stuff from Facebook/eBay that was more than good enough. I accidentally bought a very good driver in the collection (clearly the seller didn't know), so I sold that for a profit and bought a trolly. I've somewhat given up, now I can play football and stuff again, but it's certainly more accessible than it first seems if you genuinely wanted to take a crack at it.

It's a time sink though, that's for sure. I used to play the 9 holes more, as they were easier (I'm terrible) and less of a time commitment.

A friend of mine took golf up early 40s with fairly young kids at home and threw himself into it.  Practice, warm up, 18 holes, socialising etc. - so out of the house for a minimum 6 hours.  However, he'd just retired from playing Minor Counties cricket which took him out for three days at a time so it seemed like quite a big concession to domestic responsibilities...  He's divorced now :)
