The scabs lined their own pockets with masses of overtime whilst allowing the others to suffer - it's called "divide and rule" - and Thatcher was the best at it. they went to work as they had families to feed..Nothing wrong with them doing over time..Both had choices to make, some striked some worked..? But those who didnt work took it out on those who decided to work..

I remember going to Sheffield United on a Tuesday night near the end of the season after the Miners Strike had ended - the coaches (about 3 tops) parked at Sheffield Bus station where we were met by the local constabulary (literally 2 men and one on horseback ). After some discussion -decided that Latics fans better served giving the police an escort lol. In truth the 3 coppers (and the horse) looked like they had all had enough of the troubles, as did most of the home fans tbh. Just brought back that memory discussing the Miners strike and I thought I would share
Ryan
7 hours ago, TheBigDog said: So there is one school of thought that believes that ‘hitting him/them in the pocket’ is the way to protest. As I see it, If we simply look at the financial impact of any boycott on the Lemsagans, this means that they will need to put more of their own money in to the club simply to break even. The reduction in cash flow may then lead to bills being unpaid, players wages being late again and creditors taking the club to court. The reduction In available cash will also mean that we cannot afford to bring in decent loanees. All of the above will further impact the team performance and our downward spiral will continue. So what is it that the ‘hit them in the pocket’ movement are hoping to achieve? Ultimately I imagine it is to drive the owner and his brother out of the club. Then what? For this protest to ultimately succeed it needs there to be someone ready to step in with the financial means and the business acumen to take on our ailing club and turn things around. Does this person/group exist? Is the FLG that saviour? One thing that is plainly evident is that the fan base is divided on what to do - and each is entitled to his own opinion and approach. We have already seen infighting amongst our supporters and vitriolic comments about scabs only fuel the toxic atmosphere that surrounds our club. I know that we all want this club to be a success but we need a coordinated response. The fans meeting that has been talked about on here needs to take place and it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the FLG joined that meeting. Let’s work together. Shouldn’t be an issue for our Lemmy, he’s already put his life savings of 5 million in after all

Actually very interesting times, politically. I think you'll find that me and you (and probably your dad) are at opposite ends of the political spectrum. TheBigDog
So I went to the player’s entrance yesterday to see the ‘Protest’... Twenty or so fans with one banner reading ‘Support the team not the regime’. Nice slogan They were also chanting ‘Sack the Board’ which of course makes no sense at all as the Board comprises the very people who make up the regime - Which begs the question ‘who can sack the Board’? Well the owners actually, which they patently will not do. Another question: how do we ‘support the team’ if we boycott the match? So if the plan is to hit the owner financially then doesn’t that mean that there will be less money to bring in the ‘striker’ we desperately need? And if fans just go to Away games are they not putting money in the pockets of our rivals? So many questions and no real answers forthcoming. Time for the FLG to step up and provide a coordinated focal point.

I realised I was going out of routine not because I wanted to. I've found that there are simply better things to be doing at the weekend than watching Latics. I agree with you about the protest, over used meaningless slogans from people who don’t seem to understand how companies work..... but what can FLG do? The only thing they can do is get enough funds together to buy AL out, needs to be enough to turn his head (everything has its price). Flogging burgers and beer (where is the cash received going?) won’t make any difference.
