If it's not this thing of perceived effort, why does Fondop look like a threat to you but Nuttall doesn't?

He can control a football, bring others in to play, he plays with aggression, he occupies opposition defences, he can create a goal out of nothing, ask any opposition defence who they'd prefer to face and it would be Nuttall as Fondop is an handful.

How come we sign supposedly top players from other clubs and they seem to benefit more than us?

Lundstram from Alty who are 5th on 28 pts

Ward from Gateshead who are 8th on 26

Hobson from Southend who would be 5th but for their 10 pt deduction

Willoughby from Chester who are one pt outside play-offs with game in hand on a couple

Norwood from Barnsley who are 3rd in League 1 and the division's top scorers

Is Boundary Park cursed?

Theories anyone.

He is our best option at the moment though (when fit). We need to manage him while we have no other options as he is not going to be fit enough to play 3 games a week.

If we 'move on from him' we end up with Shelton and Sheron in midfield. A combination that has never won a game.

We can't move on until we have a better option. Which I am all for but we need a replacement or better options first.

Agree about letting him go in May as he isn't playing enough games. We need to a ball playing midfielder. Danny Boshell.

We don't need to play Shelton, we've got Lundstram, Sheron, McGahey, Ward plus the wide men. Grant you we need someone else in who is good with the ball and dictate the tempo.

Perhaps they thought they could sacrifice the said players, make a few bob in the process, have ready made replacements lined up and still be able to compete at the right end of the table?

As for our lot, maybe we’ve signed the wrong players, we’ve certainly played the majority in the wrong positions.I also don’t think we’ve had a proper quality backroom staff since Lee Johnson left!

Lets hope Mellon can make the necessary improvements!!

Aggression and occupies defences = perceived effort.

Fondop is a useful player if playing a certain way. Other times he can be a liability.

I’d put Reid, Nuttall, Willoughby in a similar category of needing a team set up to their strengths. We don’t create many chances for strikers. If we did we might get more out of those players.

That’s a really good question

Wish I had the answer

Agree with Yarddog that Fondop is a far better option than Nuttall. Fondop is always in the face of defenders and can bully them when needed. I feel he is a good impact sub to support other strikers.

Think Fondop's disciplinary problems stem from the fact that he tries to bully opponents too much. He's such a big unit if he just concentrated on going for the ball defenders would bounce off him.

One of the  main problems with Fondop is he tires very quickly and becomes innefective and gets frustrated with himself which is when he makes the rash tackles. I remember one game he played against us during covid he was totally unplayable for twenty minutes , I was thinking who is this guy but after his initial impact he just died. One number nine I did like around covid time was Swindons loanee Tyreece Simpson formely of Ipswich now at Huddersfield and on loan to Northampton still only 21 .

We've got a good squad on paper.

Unfortunately, the game is played on grass.

One of the many brilliant observations of Brian Clough - and doesn't it just apply to us!

The great Brian Clough was probably a prime example of getting a team that would come together to be more than the sum of its parts. We've signed a load of individuals that have a net talent that matches anyone in the division but the squad just doesn't have the right chemistry to come together.

So we are not cursed we just don't sign the right players.

Looking at his last sending off it was just a case of trying to tackle in a clumsy manner and he did the same at at Wrexham. Not from fighting off centre backs for a high ball we want him to do that. Keep the Aggression just don't make any daft lunges and he should be fine.

This has come about through our much lauded recruitment system, that the podcast lads were wetting themselves about last year.

Unsworth didn’t have a clue what he was doing, so we were recruiting players to fit a system that didn’t really exist.

The teams we were apparently copying have had an established identity so know what they’re doing and it works for them. We were just starting out with a numpty in charge and ended up with a mishmash of a squad with no set style of play.

Its a good idea in principal but we need to establish a playing style or culture and have some success first before we go down that route.

Indeed the people responsible for the recruitment are no longer at the club and that tells us what we need to know about it.

The ideas were right in principle again you are correct but poorly executed we signed 2 centre backs when we only needed one we signed 2 strikers when we only needed 1 we didn't sign a right back or someone in the centre who can link defence and midfield or someone who can link attack and midfield. But we've had discussion and we are all very wise in hindsight.

I don't think you necessarily need to pull together a style before a recruitment strategy I think they need to be done at the same time aslong as they delegate it properly you will be ok.

As long as he scores I'm not bothered. Needs to cut out lunges like the one yesterday, was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Indeed I don't think anyone would have had massive issues if it had been a red card. Shocking challenge.
