It's not our fault that we have such a negative attitude towards the club.

We're the ones that are left.  Can you imagine the opinion of the 10K + that have deserted us over the last 30 years!!

I presume the 10K+ you refer is from the Premiership days?. Some of the older members of this board could possibly say 15K have deserted us. The truth of the matter is like all Football clubs a lack of success on the pitch see's crowds fall, likewise a rise with success. I recall the best part of the 1989/90 season the crowd was 4000/5000 and only improved during the epic cup runs. Even then it wasn't until the latter end of the cups did we see am increase in league games also. The following season (promotion season) the crowd improvement carried over and more so as that season progressed. If we want to be honest, a lot of those were Manure and City fans that resided in the town but had an interest in Latics due to living here. they soon drifted away once we went down. The start of the TTA era we had about 5500/6000 and I'd suggest quite an average older aged crowd. Unfortunately quite a number have passed away now and their places not being taken by the younger people. Whilst the rest have wondered away for a variety of reasons.

What this club is in desperate need of is some prolonged success.

Nothing can be good at the club. Absolutely nothing.

I'd say likeliest answer, plus the possible higher cost of housing them at least initially.

Could be a plus point from a bad situation.
The fact we've not started the season yet is the huge caveat though.

And before you say it, it's says caveat. Everyone knows, from experience, that a great pre season is not a guarantee to a fantastic season. We'll see soon enough.

AND, as I have said a few times, I hope we do have a great season and the owner stops meddling.

You say that, but all six players we signed in January (pre-pandemic) were English...

It's a fair point, but that was with Dino pushing it, and Kewell seems to be happy to be dictated too.

My thinking he would still have tried to get a number of the old type of player, and not let go of the strategy, rather than 100% signing of #Frenchlads.

Lies!  It's obvious that anyone who is critical of the current ownership (that has overseen a huge downturn in our league position/season ticket sales) and is calling for the club to change their ways, clearly wants the club to fail.

🤪

What?? 😂😂😂

So Dino pushed for British signings but Kewell is having British signings dictated to him.

Or

AL has changed his mind and the last 12 to 15 signings pre and post COVID prove it.

It's a good post mate, but my point still stands.  As a business the club has lost 80%? of its customers.

I know, (and I bet you know) loads of people who don't go because they have had enough.  The club only have themselves to blame.

You're not wrong. However the rate we've shed our fanbase in comparison to a team like, Stockport County, say, is nothing short of catastrophic. Our fans are not daft Lags. We had a consistent level of hardcore support during the latter end of the Corney years (and I'd include myself in that category) and that was utter dross until he pulled a rabbit out of the hat via a moody payday loan. My opinion is the petty politics engineered by the regime in charge, downward trend in comparison to Corney's treading water and the public airing of dirty laundry has put another chunk of those off.

In contrast, Stockport held on to a decent proportion of their support despite having a much worse time of it on the pitch than us. Wonder why that was?

Not overly convinced by either of these. As a few have said above Fylde fans gobsmacked we have signed him after they binned him off. The other lad had just signed to a league 4 below ours, surely if he was quality or had potential he wouldn’t have needed to do that. Either way giving both a chance to see how they do.
