Yes, how do they manage to look such a good team whilst losing their manager plus some of their best players in mid season

And they do it on average attendances of little more than 1,000 with 5 games being watched by less than 1,000. They look a very good team, score lots of goals ( 25 more than us ), and are on course for promotion.

The people running that club on what must be a shoestring budget deserve a medal, and all the success in the world.

And have we played them 5 times in the last 2 seasons, and not managed a single win ?

Yes and just to go slight off NL topic, Curzon Ashton are the same, punching well above their weight year in year out.

It's all about being run right all the way through the club, expecting players to leave but have the structure to replace them.

Apparently all you have to do is pick the right manager and the rest takes care of itself...

Sophie Ellis Bextor in her theaudience days did sing “A pessimist is never disappointed” I guess. 😀

Fuck me, even for you that's a deep-cut of a reference! You've hit marrow, never mind bone, with that one! :D

If the team cuts out the poor attitude and basic mistakes and just plays football then the fans will back them - that's all we ask.

Exactly. After the Chesterfield match all we chatted about was the performance and didn't really mention the scoreline.

We did beat them a few years back away when we had the likes of Mouche, Iacovetti and zeus de la paz etc. Ah, them were the days!!

We nearly beat them away under Unsworth, in fact we were the better team.

Shelton and Sheron in a midfield three with Gardner, Sutton at rightback, playing a 4-5-1 with Norwood up top on his own.

Yes, tbf, it was one of the better performances under Unsworth and we should have won with the help of their keeper throwing 2 in his own net.

Don't say that, you'll have some pendant claiming that's not the case.

You're right though it's must win as was last Saturday for me.

If last Saturday was a must win, but we didn't win, then Friday can't be a must win, by your logic it's all over

We can look forward to another season down here

Hopefully, one day, somebody might come along and achieve something

Halifax. Lol.

It's an awful pitch and one that's "maintained" by the council. Surprised someone hasn't stepped in yet to make them fulfil their fixtures elsewhere as is the case at lower levels. Stick some astro down at the Piece Hall and let's have at it.

Lol - but seriously what is the solution?

How many home games do they now need to fit in before the end of the season?

25 years ago Curzon Ashton were in the North West Counties League, now they are in the National League North play offs with a great chance of facing Latics next season.

And on top of that Ashton United could be in the NLN next season one league away from us.

Who have thought it?

The shifting sands of football, BP, fortune and misfortune meet somewhere in the middle.
It makes the game what it is..apart from the greedy league.
