It’s designed as a penalty, not as an automatic relegation. It just so happens, that when they give it to clubs they tend to be struggling.

Im sure there is a timing issue as well, so if it’s before a certain point they take the penalty this season, and if it’s after a certain point it would roll into next season. From their point of view they’d want to take this season.

Yes, but where is this timing issue stated in the EFL rules?

dkd is prob our only hope of staying up.

We are doomed if you are only banking on DKD 😮

If we do survive then it will be down to a collective effort from the whole squad and key players, such as DKD, need to give more.

There are simply too many who have slipped back into poor form in the past three games.

Think we play Sutton the midweek before they're at Wembley. We'll either be playing a team full of players who don't want to stretch themselves and possibly get injured, or a team full of fringe players keen to make an impression.

5-0 home win.

Do you think the Shez effect is wearing off, or they’re just not good enough to keep their level consistent?

A bit of both probably….but not having a fit Fondop & Obadeyi hasn’t helped.

I think both - there is almost always a new manager bounce that creates a renewed effort. Players at this level are generally inconsistent.

We should not underestimate however,  the impact of the vocal home support  - we have been getting 6,000 or so and the backing has been good. Hopefully this will continue over the coming four games  🙏

Very true.Weve just got to hope Stevenage buck the new manager trend! If we stay up it will be at their expense.

Anyone know how many pack the park tickets we have sold? Be great to get over 6k again tomorrow

What were the Latics results before we played at Wembley?

Every team up to 17th placed Rochdale are likely to need additional points to ensure their league survival.

In 1994 not bad really

FA Cup semi was 9th April

4th April L 2-3 vs Man Utd

2nd April W 4-1 Vs QPR

30th March W 3-1 Vs Southampton

26th March D 0-0 Vs Man City

19th March W 2-1 Vs Aston Villa

It's only when you see it you realise how catastrophic Mark Hughes' equalizer was from 15th Jan that year we only lost twice and got some good wins - we just completely folded after Wembley and didn't win again

The "new manager bounce" has been mentioned on here many times lately. Lol, if it truly existed, we'd be well clear at the top of the league with the number of bloody managers we've had!

Incredibly, some are , yet again, calling for a change of manager. Unbelievable.

It was only me calling for a change of manager. I was rightly derided for daring to make such a suggestion.

You never called for a change of manager, you suggested a change of manager might give us another kick up the arse.

My inner cynic is this is Evans giving himself more time to work with his squad before playing his first match in charge.

At least now, a win, although unlikely, would propel us out of the relegation places with a game in hand on them!!

To be fair, us, Walsall, Carlisle, even Scunny, saw results improve in the games immediately after a change.

Benachour, Curle, Kewell.... haven't checked tbh but if we'd had the "new manager bounce" with them surely we would not find ourselves in dire straits now metty?

As the evil day draws nearer and Latics are remembered forever as a perennial quiz question, it may come as a little comfort and hope for the future if Luton were able to complete the reverse journey, which they currently are having a good stab at.
